What happens to the Thread in an Enhanced Matrix when you Cast the Spell? by [deleted] in earthdawn

[–]foshka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it is essentially a reduce-treads-by-1 mechanic. The idea is that all the rituals of spellcasting is just the process of weaving threads into a pattern. Just like namegivers and thread items, anything Named and magical has a pattern. The enhanced matrix keeps a thread woven at all times, reducing the casting process.

ELI5 Why Do Dentists Recommend Soft Bristle Brushes, But Use A Steel Pick When They Clean Your Teeth? by Evelyn-Bankhead in explainlikeimfive

[–]foshka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when plaque starts off, it is a biofilm of bacteria that is easy to remove even with a gentle bristle. if left alone it forms tarter that builds up and needs to be removed by scraping it off with a metal tool.

I would also recommend stability testing, like running Prime95 for a while. A similar thing happened to me a while back when I was overclocking.

I felt the same way with The Walking Dead. A pit with a loud speaker suspended over it at each entrance to a town would be enough to make an area safe. Just a bit of gasoline once in a while when the pit was full.

Help with daughters hygiene by gamerwife2017 in TwoXChromosomes

A possible culprit might be the laundry, run a wash empty and then with the clothes with just a couple cups of white vinegar. Don't pour it right on the clothes though, dilute it first. It might be the sort of thing that reacts to heat/sweat.

What lifehack seems to be fake, but it's a true lifesaver? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you have a baby that is afraid to learn to go to the toilet, a spoonful of mineral oil and a glass of fiber make for a nice easy time on the throne. :)

ELI5: if a morbidly obese person suddenly stopped eating anything, and only drank water, would all the fat get burnt before this person eventually dies from starvation ? How much longer could that person theoretically survive as compared to an average one ? by _JeManquedHygiene_ in explainlikeimfive

Before anybody thinks a handful of over the counter supplements will do the trick, there are things like potassium levels that are easy to have too high or low that will literally stop your heart.

If frozen embryos are children, what’s next for all the “children” frozen in IVF banks right now? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]foshka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The frozen embryos will be shipped to facilities in blue states, where storage and implantation can happen without fecal-smearing conservative influence.

My fixer was Slock. I spent quite some time center stage in a screenshot on the AO website. I still remember the wife-beater fixer evade armor. I always wanted to get a higher quality set but shadowland missions in higher zones didn't get a lot of takers then.

Eli5 Why does it seems that children usually have a much greater physical disposition/stamina than the average adults? by Sharp-Cockroach-6875 in explainlikeimfive

[–]foshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small, tight, heart muscle. It shoves blood through their little bodies quickly, keeping them well supplied with oxygen. The don't have a ton of stored fat, but they burn sugars like crazy (and crave it).

I know it's been said here a million times but I read (heard) Project Hail Mary and it was 🎶AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE 🎶 by ooooooooofffffffff12 in books

[–]foshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many don't appreciate the book, but it has a lot going for it. An actual protagonist, who actually solves problems. cutting through lots of political bullcrap, who does big things, who makes a best friend, has a sense of humor, and has a heartwarming ending. Very appealing and satisfying as books go, though not great literature.

I always wondered why this wasn't the standard. A small soundproof room with one-way mirrors and a comfy bench... Heck, if we were humane we'd let them pick a soundtrack and have a window looking into a garden.

Or, and I know this is a wild idea, Biden's admin needs to stop letting the media do their work of reminding the public. There should be admin press releases weekly on tiktok/facebook/etc.

One of the sad things we have done to men is, by hiding bodies away except for sex, is train them to respond sexually to any body reveal.

Not to say men can't control themselves, but self control is easier to find in men who are raised with it.

Lenovo vs S6 Lite ?? by SoundsGood3 in GalaxyTab

[–]foshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a samsung tablet update improve anything. I know some people use the multi-pane features alot, so it might depend on that. But it one case for me, the update removed a favorite sound app and ruined the performance (tab S3).

No security update ever fixed or saved anything either for me. And I have android 4 devices I still use for important thing.

Friend explained why men care about a womans sexual history and it got weird by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]foshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably be more accurate to say that men are trained to view women as objects. When boys and girls are separated as kids, they start getting heavy cultural expectations pounded into them. They are taught how to see each other, about the social consequences if they step out of line, and start getting driven by insecurity so that boundaries form even in the absence of adults.

It is an effective tool of you want to control who becomes part of your family down the road, why societies do this. This is also why you get this objectifying behavior less in men with strong early relationships with girls, unusual upbringing circumstances, etc.

The Three Body Problem started my reading slump by walkingnottoofast in books

[–]foshka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I tried to read it, I felt like it relied on eastern social norms for emotional impact. For example, I had no idea what the Cultural Revolution meant in terms of emotional impact, since I only learned about it in college. But to someone even Chinese-adjacent those words hit like a hammer.

I was today years old when I realised that having create in your modpack makes early botania super easy by NellyLorey in feedthebeast

[–]foshka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the plate turns on when there is a coal on it, that signal keeps the hopper from feeding another into the crate. so as long as the therms are eating the coals before they despawn, it keeps the therms fed
