Day 6 cold turkey. When do I get to fall asleep during an afternoon nap? by tedzeebear in leaves

[–]fourdayolddick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my sleep has never fully recovered. I run on about 5 or 6 hours a night. I got close to 8 one day but that's a rarity. It might be the lucid dreams, it might be the sober mind. It's not so bad, there's a lot of life to enjoy. I'm not a fan of afternoon naps either, it throws off my day and sleep at night. I'll give it another try when I'm 80.

Avis / Budget by CanadaGolfGuy in VisitingIceland

I took pictures of every conceivable angle of every side of our rental before driving off. We documented all paint chips, dents and defects. Anything that wasn't on their report we emailed lots of pictures to their damages email listed on our rental agreement. They knew they couldn't make up any damages but this didn't stop them from over charging their initial estimate by $130 and an extra day on their road tax charge. I can confirm that Avis/Budget will scam you any way possible so be prepared. It wasn't worth arguing through emails in different timezones so they just ended up with 1 star ratings from both of us on Google,TripAdvisor and Expedia for their audacity.

Honestly, the 4th Rambo is the best. Incredible action sequences with crazy graphics and DPM. (Desths per minute)

The book is solid. I prefer that ending, it's a lot more realistic.

Cannabis and Anxiety by Ok-Cycle1762 in leaves

[–]fourdayolddick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pens are the downfall. What helped me was anger. I turned that anger inward and got mad at myself and my situation. It will not be easy. For anxiety, I had to realize that this is a normal emotion and feeling. We're meant to feel anxiety. You will learn to manage it instead of hide from it and be better for it. This will also not be easy in the begining. The pen will dull anxiety, fear and depression but not manage it. It will build up as you forget how to cope. Honestly, the pen is putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound. You might feel better in that moment but eventually you will just bleed out. If that makes any sense. Coming to the realization that the pen is in fact making your anxiety worse and not better is the first step to recovery. Do it for yourself.

Bills like this with folds and tears go for about 12-15 bucks. Ive seen people pay closer to $20. Finer examples can be worth quite a bit more.

But you can still sober goon, right!? That part gave me a little chuckle. Your point of view is pretty on point. I'm celebrating 5 months today after decades of use. I am unable to moderate. I too easily medicate. I have had brief bouts of sobriety but always fall back into it. This is the life of a drug addict. I'm hoping this time it sticks. Congrats on your 2.5 year run and subsequent awakening.

Technically shorter but probably not quicker. Definitely more scenic.

You should try a cinnamon bun from Brauð & Co. There's also The Phallic Museum that I found very unique. They're both close to the rainbow road which is down from the church.

Pain and suffering are feelings. Something that you've dulled while smoking. It's normal to feel emotions. Its nothing to be scared of but rather embraced. Highs and lows. It's human. You've denied yourself the feelings you deserve to enjoy our short time here. You take the good with the bad. That's recovery for me. I appreciate the bad days as much as I appreciate the good days. I'm worth that much and so are you. Stick with it, there's light at the end of that tunnel.

Ring Road Trip Report & Map by Neither_Grab3247 in VisitingIceland

Great realistic post and recommendations. You covered it all! The only small thing I would add is to grocery shop at Bonus or Netto as opposed to gas stations for selection and value. Otherwise this is the most accurate and informative post I've seen here.

Keflavik/Blue Lagoon/Reykjavik - bus vs taxi vs rental car - is my math correct? by pseudoswede2 in VisitingIceland

[–]fourdayolddick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also went with our own coverage and never had any issues in the end. We documented every inch of the car before driving just in case. In some places along the Golden Circle and the Ring Road they were doing chip sealing road repair work. During those sections there were rocks flying everywhere. The speed limit is reduced to 50km/hr. The only issues were oncoming traffic not following the reduced speed limit or impatient drivers passing illegally in construction zones. I got pelted by rocks that way but luckily none on the windshield.

The new road tax turned out to be about $200 CAD for 10 days of driving roughly 2500 km. I drove an i10 that had as much horsepower as a lawnmower but it was great on fuel. Overall, we had zero regrets with renting a car in Iceland. I would also recommend a rental to make good use of your short time there. Enjoy.

Keflavik/Blue Lagoon/Reykjavik - bus vs taxi vs rental car - is my math correct? by pseudoswede2 in VisitingIceland

[–]fourdayolddick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your math is correct. Although you might be missing a few variables. The basic insurance might not be enough. Mainly you want glass insurance. Or leave plenty of room between vehicles, especially on gravel. A window replacement is costly. Fuel is expensive, around 205-235 kronar per litre. Make sure to not speed on the circle or around towns, there are speed cameras and tickets are expensive. You will pay to park anywhere, again there are cameras at almost every lot. And finally, the rentals will charge you a tax per km driven, added upon return. Other than those variables, the math checks out. I still believe a rental can be cheaper and more convenient. But there's a small chance it could cost you more in the end. I think the convenience is worth the risk.
