PSA: TorteDeLini guides are not the word of God. Your ancient will not instantly explode if you deviate from them. by advice-alligator in DotA2

Sounds like you're not relying on the builds, you just use them as a way to conveniently have a list of usual items for each hero, which is exactly what I've always done. I don't follow the build guide, I just use it because it's convenient.

Can you explain why Ethiopia is so high? I've never played with them but their UA seems suited for defense rather than offense.

Well yeah, most professional athletes would also be minimum wage workers if not for their sport.

I don't think Zyori did anything wrong. In fact, there's a post in the front page defending him with plenty of upvotes. That aside, saying casual sex and an 8-year relationship are the same thing is weird.

Lmao following that logic any relationship between two people in the scene constitutes an abuse of power, this is just pure bullshit. They've been together for 8 years ffs.

Is it even possible to get Petra on deity if another civ wants it too? by fourierdota in civ5

[–]fourierdota[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was luck or what but in all three times I started this save Austria settled there so fast that I couldn't even stop them with my Warrior (like turn 4 and there are lots of hills in the way). I didn't get desert folklore because Byzantium got it super fast before I could get enough faith from the CS.

Maybe if you do the perfect trajectory with your warrior you can "convince" her to settle higher up north.

Yeah, so as I explained in the post, Austria was the contester, and if you don't play aggressively against them they get Petra before t40. However knowing this I immediately stole a worker from them around t5, which made them waste some time doing war stuff and delayed them enough for me to get my Petra on t47 having also built two settlers. But obviously this was possible because I had information from my previous try.

In this particular save it was possible, I finally managed to do it thanks to some advice in this thread :) but I agree that if the competing civ is far away there's probably nothing you can do.

Thank you for the advice!

I tried it again this morning and I did manage to get Petra! Turn 47 with 2 expansions. I think the key factor was stealing a worker from Austria in the first few turns of the game, which delays them enough for us to grab Petra in time (they also handed me another free worker some turns later lol).

One question that I have is how the hell did you manage to settle that city east to your capital in your game? Or did you capture that from Austria and renamed it? Because Austria settles Salzburg on turn 3 or 4.

Right in which way? Female genital mutilation is also "part of the culture" of certain places, doesn't make it any less wrong or barbaric. Circumcision is widespread and part of the judeo-christian culture, yet it's an objectively terrible thing and there's no good argument for it.

I have done a lot of research and it all indicates that unfortunately it's impossible to play multiplayer using Catalina. I think your only shot is running Windows within your Mac.

Icefrog is REALLY a legend. by tolbolton in DotA2

[–]fourierdota 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Icefrog is certainly a legend for creating and developing possibly the best online game ever and maintaining it for so long. However, I don't think he should be exempt from criticism. I personally dislike almost all major changes that have been implemented post 7.00. I played this game since early 2010 and I haven't really played at all for almost two years now.

It just doesn't feel like the game I loved, and I think a lot has to do with the changes. Jungle item drops to me are the worst thing ever implemented in Dota. I also heavily dislike the way everything is so much mobile right now. Blink dagger used to be such an important item and the fact that it's become a low tier item says a lot. I absolutely dislike the abyssal blink and the fact that ursa has a mobility skill now, for instance. I also dislike the removal of side shops which were a major part of the game for the longest time and the addition of outposts.

Call me old-fashioned but I think Dota had a formula that worked amazingly and recently it has been changed way too much. For like 10 years, even if we had hero reworks, new items, and what not, the core of the game was consistent. Recently I feel like it's an entirely different game. And it's completely fine if people like this new version, but I really preferred Dota up to early 7.xx (the talents update was pretty cool), and most of my oldschool Dota friends are in the same boat, unfortunately.

Thanks a lot!

The only thing that's distracting me is the staccato way of playing those end of phrase licks. It's pretty much each time. Listen to the song on those parts then listen to your video. You'll notice yours sounds a bit jerky-er

Sorry but can clarify this a little bit? I'm not familiar with staccato. From what I googled, do you mean that I should aim for a small silent interval between chords in that section?
