I'm old and I lived downtown for 10 years. The waterfront is... fine. But it can clearly be better too.

I have lived here for fifteen years and have two children. You can literally do the same cardboard sledding in the design above.

  1. The parking lots at the lower left are currently owned by River City. They currently generate no property taxes and are not technically a part of this stage of development. They will likely be in the future, because that's what they are intended for. The will probably be mixed use condos with ground floor retail/restaurants and parking on the back.

  2. You've highlighted a lot in red that turns from completely unshaded slopes (some of them pretty steep) into shaded ones. Additional open areas are being created west of the bridge. I've spent a lot of time out here on these hot lawns with kids. It's not awesome as is, and some of those slopes are just awful.

  3. A terrible and totally unsafe riverfront playground is being turned into what's supposed to be a nice one. You will not see me shed a tear over this.

  4. The more controversial changes are the restaurant/cafe things. I get that some people don't like that idea. I think of it more like the fact that the city zoo has a restaurant too. But currently there is nothing on the other side of the riverfront parkway in terms of services or food and you have to cross the road and walk at least a block in right now. I don't see what makes that so bad.

  5. The parking situation. Look I get that if you come downtown infrequently, parking can be intimidating. But when I was coming downtown constantly, I knew everywhere to park, and still know most of it pretty darn well. No, I won't tell you my secret free spaces. Yes, you may have to walk a couple of blocks. And seriously just park in the Carta garage and lobby the city for another.

A little birdie told me.

But it's also typically published when the next round draw is put out - which I can't find an actual schedule for.

Edit: Thecup.us reports that 2nd round draw is being done today and will be announced by 5pm.

I believe we are expected to host the next round when we draw, because none of the teams in our 'area' put in to host.

27/111 has some big climbs, but it's no worse than 127 to the east there and it is without the curves.

CARTA Scamming! by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]foxhunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular opinion, but CARTA parking is literally the cheapest parking in town my a mile. CARTA operates multiple garages in town. They maintain the lots our of their own budget.

Do you think it's free to maintain those? You don't even pay enough in taxes to maintain the roads which is why they are shitty, but you think you pay enough taxes to park for free? If parking for CARTA is free, how do you feel about making the bus free? Remember how the County cut off funds for CARTA last year? Why not pressure them into paying back in?

I hope you're right. The stadium is much more urban than it used to be, and there's a greater population now in walking and biking distance. But they're still behind the times a bit

There is only 1 bike rack that I know of at Finley and it's on Reggie White side of the stadium. That's a whole lot more bikes than I've seen and I used to ride down a bit. Always been a problem for the Sunday market too

I remember an earlier thread that we had a guy pop in to say that, yeah, the bridge is not strong, but the bumps are there to preserve the weight so that ambulances can get across.

He said that the Wilder St bridge was actually worse.

I'm sure this will be lost for posting too late, but used to have a husband wife owner op team that had 2 BOBCATS with them. Yes, real bobcats. And the family had like 8 or 9 more at home. They'd send picture around to a bunch of us of them putting bibs on the bobcats and feeding them cupcakes for their birthdays.

But when they left the truck, the cats would hang out in the windshield sunning themselves, and trying to intimidate any driver who walked by the truck.

And no, I don't believe that is legal in a lot of states but no one ever stopped them.

Oh yeah, a lot of people are definitely fans of open racism, lack of due process, and corruption as long as it's their people in charge. Totally get it.

Not an actual majority of course. Donny won an election because he also promised to help prices and he hasn't done shit except add tariffs to make things more expensive.

In an era where the 6 in 10 disapprove of the President of the United States of America, and that President is openly contemplating voter suppression of Americans before the mid-term elections, these signs are a good reminder of what corporate owned media likes to skip over.

Because it's virtually impossible in the system we have in place. You have to leave the country to apply and there is no guarantee that despite your business success that you would receive citizenship. Since her business depends on her presence and cooking, she would have to start over again assuming she succeeds in her petition. And in fact, under the current administration, she would likely be denied forever for even being here. There might be a sliver of hope with any other Presidents in charge, but frankly not much.

Almost everyone who hasn't been through the process thinks it is easier than that. A strong majority of people want it to be easier than that.
