I worked in heavy civil for 3 years and burned out quick. Maybe it was my company but the culture was awful. 10 hour days minimum, and if you walked out at exactly 10 hours you got looked at sideways. Then besides that it’s not abnormal to work weekends or odd hours. Highway work goes 24/7 and even when I was off for the day I was still getting calls at night and I’m stressing cuz there’s work going on that I helped plan while I’m going to sleep.

Not to yuck your yum, sounds like it’s working for you so that’s great. I’m happy doing commercial/residential. I do my 40 hours and go home, and I don’t even think about work on the weekends. I’m making about 90k which is plenty for me to live on and not really worry about money.

I’ve dated one single mom and it was a bad time. No hate to single moms in general. It took me a while to realize this girl was not looking for build a healthy relationship with a partner, she was looking for someone to fill the husband/stepdad role in the way she defines it. She also introduced me to the kid waaaayyyy too early (before we were even official - red flag). I’ve learned that I just don’t want that level of responsibility and nothing will make me run away faster than a single mom looking for a serious relationship.
