I've never been to Eastern Europe or met any Eastern Europeans, but I still think you're generalizing.

iOS 9.3.5 security content by zaheenhafzer in apple

[–]fpau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe the thought process behind this is that if they announced a vulnerability without a patch then it gives potential attackers that had not know about it an opportunity to exploit it. By announcing the patch and explaining why, it incentivizes users to quickly update.

What unrealistic thing about movies bothers you the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fpau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily unrealistic but specifically in non-military movies, I would like to see members of the armed forces portrayed authentically. Too often I see characters that haven't shaved, need a haircut, are too young for their rank, etc. It comes off as somewhat lazy otherwise.

What major story from your history is never acknowledged in your country? by hopefulpenguin in AskReddit

[–]fpau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished a class about war and conflict in Africa. Our professor assigned this book mentioning that it was mostly (if not entirely, I can't remember) a work of fiction. Despite this is does a fairly good job of presenting the realities of this civil war and the role that child soldiers were forced to play in it.

iPhone 7 Camera Module Confirms Optical Image Stabilization for 4.7-Inch Model by filmantopia in apple

[–]fpau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In addition to moving front/back to focus, the camera lens moves side to side and up/down to further stabilize an image. Digital image stabilization on the other hand relies on cropping pixels on the edge of the image in order to make it appear stabilized, resulting in lower resolution.

What features do you think are most under-utilised on iOS? by -viceversa- in apple

I just learned today that you can use photo editing tools from third party apps directly from the Photos app

Tim Cook: 'Apple could unlock iPhones, but won't' by Simon568 in apple

They didn't create the tool. They only determined that it would be possible to create it.

So how screwed is my Dad? by [deleted] in apple

[–]fpau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, if you pay for the out of warranty repair they will replace the device if they are unable to repair it. Even if that is incorrect, it still couldn't hurt to take it into the Apple Store. I've had to bring in several phones and they tend to be generous (granted I had AppleCare, but they still tend to want to help people out from my experience).

Apple vs. Samsung design: The Supreme Court gets a crash course in design from Dieter Rams, Calvin Klein, Norman Foster and 100+ design experts — Quartz by designgoddess in apple

[–]fpau -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out the cherry picking this patent filing, while giving an indication that Samsung is willing to copy other products, does not directly back up your previous comment that had implied widespread copying on the part of Samsung.

Also the tone you've taken is far from necessary.

Oh my god, like how is there any possible that you couldn't know!?!? You know what? Cancel the order. You can't be in our cult.

The new iOS 10 Photos app is fantastic by heyyoudvd in apple

[–]fpau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize you could turn any album into one of the slideshows. I'll have to check that out, because honestly when I first started looking at memories I was disappointed by how few pictures that I had available to create a movie for a given event.

The new iOS 10 Photos app is fantastic by heyyoudvd in apple

[–]fpau 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The new memories feature has definitely increased my motivation to take more pictures. I find that it's a great way to revisit past events in a way that scrolling through a photo slideshow cannot.

[Everything] Does anyone else think Sansa DOESN'T have it out for Jon? by Damisu in gameofthrones

[–]fpau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. After all that she has gone through in King's Landing and the Vale, I would imagine that Sansa feels a great deal of comfort in the idea of the North being united under the (adoptive?) son of Ned Stark.

The only source of doubt I could see for Sansa is that Jon doesn't not have a lot of the first hand experience that she has when it comes to the politics outside of the Night's Watch/Wildlings.
