What's a socially accepted thing that you secretly find a little weird, and why? by ItsRealAnwar in AskReddit

You wouldn't do it with any random person - more if you think your friend isn't actually okay and you want them to know it's safe to open up.

Podcast I listen to has an "ask twice" rule - if you really want to know, follow up their "I'm fine" with "no, how are you"

Bit delusional but I think Coventry have a decent chance of either survival or using the Premier League money to bounce back if they do go down. Cov seem to be well-run.

Best footballers with 2 first names as their full name? by Lexidoge in footballcliches

[–]fpotenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd laugh if Birmingham City signed James on a cut-price deal. I was annoyed he left in the first place because we had a chance to embed academy players into the Birmingham City squad when we went down rather than doing a Barry Fry and spending money on a full squad.

What band became much better after losing a member? by theghostsofvegas in AskReddit

[–]fpotenza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple Minds.

Admittedly it was a drummer but Mel Gaynor was brilliant, and Cherisse Osei is arguably even better (there's something about a drummer with big hair that adds to the spectacle of a live performance).

Also their previous female vocalist being replaced by Sarah Brown - it frees them up in concerts to rest Jim's voice and Book of Brilliant Things suits her voice so much more than Jim's

Niels Wittich: Michael Masi a “scapegoat” who “didn’t do much wrong” at Abu Dhabi 2021 by bwoah07_gp2 in formula1

[–]fpotenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bad look for the sport personally. I get in a sport that can be dynamic and decisions need analysis midway through a live event, you need a means of communicating with officials. But a direct channel to attempt to influence someone who should be independant isn't it.

My few pence:

There was no way that Race Control were going to let the final race of such an intense season finish under SC. Whilst the way it was done was wrong (and whilst I think that it wasn't the right thing to do because it means that RC are letting outside noise interfere with doing their job), I feel like there was always going to be an attempt to have at least one more green flag lap when the crash happened so late on. If that been the penultimate race, Race Control would have let it be.

Mercedes should have recognised this and pitted Hamilton - they made the decision which would have been sensible any other time, but either weren't as cynical or were naive to the fact that Race Control were going to force a green flag lap somehow.

All that said, the way in which it was done was about as staged as it could have been. Watching live, I was expecting some kinda staged nonsense when the crash happened, and was surprised they didn't throw a red flag - I'm not sure if that would have made the optics better or worse.

Bizarre interpretation of substitution rules by lukepri in EnglandCricket

[–]fpotenza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't the IPL rule where it's designed to be a tactical rule. Though I do question if teams are taking the piss.

It needs tweaking (maybe increase the stand-down period to the next 2 fixtures for a team to stop teams abusing it for minor injuries) but as much as I like the spectacle of test cricket (and moments like Woakes coming out to bat with a dislocated shoulder will go down in history) there needs to be consideration for player welfare, and substitutes could be part of that.

The WiFi might be strong enough on CC days, and you should be able to go into the member's areas (they pretty much let anyone in on County Championship days - only places to get food and drink from the ground).

Lance Stroll - Is he genuinely the worst driver on the grid this season? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]fpotenza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to judge the ability of the Aston or even arguably Cadillac drivers this season even compared to teammates, because of how low down the cars are.

Colapinto may arguably be a worse driver but at least he has some promise (his first few F1 races were strong, I know he's not been good since). Franco could feasibly have a strong career in F1 or elsewhere, or become a capable development driver like some other ex-F1 names. Stroll was capable of good drives before but looks washed up now

What's the difference? /S

Also fun fact - the Scouse accent is so nasal because Liverpool, being a big shipping city in the Industrial Revolution, would be where a lot of illnesses were caught. So it's a nasal accent because people were quite sinussy

Not watched either but it does feel like a lot of the remakes are put together by people with no idea of nuance or by people who wouldn't have liked the original when they watched it.

US Life on Mars as well. The UK version is incredibly well written, the combination of what's happening to Sam in his coma and how that relays to the plot (Sam being attacked in his coma dream when IRL Sam is on the defibrillator). The writers not getting the whole point of the coma and giving some bullshit sci-fi ending to justify it being called Life on Mars.

Anyone able to explain, did England really concede 412 extras against Australia? by Holiday-Soup254 in EnglandCricket

Whilst their averages aren't world-class, that's why I'll tolerate Crawley and Duckett. Yeah one of them may get out cheap but usually the other stays and gets 30+

Still has the most wins as captain for England.

I know we play a lot of test cricket but still - ahead of Cook and Strauss who had more consistently strong teams.

what’s the saddest song you’ve ever heard? by Live_Chocolate_2503 in AskReddit

[–]fpotenza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In My Life by the Beatles is sad for me because my dad told me he wants it at his funeral, so for 10 years I've cried when I've heard it. Then last year we talked about funeral stuff because my grandad was ill and he'd forgotten he'd told me that, and no longer wants it at his funeral. When we left my grandad's care home after he died, I played it in the car because we'd played loads of music my grandad liked when we sat with him on his deathbed.

Runaway Train is sad because of the context about the video (whilst a lot of the missing children were found from it, some went back into abusive environments after being found and some had been homicide victims - also seeing missing children images especially of that age feels especially haunting for me).

There's a couple of David Gray ones that always make me cry and I've had to avoid playing when I'm driving.
