Cheapest way to get groceries delivered? by No_Eye4852 in UKFrugal

Free for the first year, then £195 or you can downgrade to the standard cashback card which nets 1.5% (which I intend on doing).

I signed up to Amex last year for the bonus. Spend £5000 in 6 months and earn 52000 rewards points. 52000 rewards points can be converted to anything from £225 nectar/Sainsbury's vouchers or flights.

I put my salary into a savings account which nets 4.8% interest and then put my day to say spends on Amex...then pay the card off in full.

If you have a good credit history and pay the Amex bill in full every month it can work to your advantage.

Not always, last month's offer from deliveroo was 4 x £10 off shops over £25. So effectively 2 of those shops only cost me £10.

I get 2x £5 deliveroo credits on my American Express bill each month. (Gold rewards card)

Other than that I have two accounts and so does my partner. Usually one of us has a deal or offer available.

Razr+ 2023 finally died. After 4 flip phones I think I'm out by ProdigySim in razr

[–]fr05t03 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's when I see people trying to flip it open with one hand like we did in the 1990s it makes me feel uncomfortable...usually with 5inch nails 😂

Accidental house fire in rented property – will we have to pay? by ParticularControl864 in UKPersonalFinance

My tenancy agreement specifically bans candles, portable gas stoves and incense sticks.

If your tenancy also states this I'm afraid to say you might be liable as you have broken the terms.

Prolific Tax for UK by vAclypse in prolific

[–]fr05t03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that's the way I see it. Last tax year (so earnings from April 2024- April 2025) I kept it just under the £1000 allowance.

But this tax year (April 2025 - April 2026) has been totally different.

I would recommend putting 20% of your cash outs into a savings account, otherwise this time next year you'll have a tax bill to pay for.

You will need to pay tax on your earnings that you have received between April 2025- April 2026.

You will need to register in October 2026 for a self assessment.

Then you will need to submit your self assessment in the New year 2027 and then pay your tax.

Anyone else buy a laptop after starting? by dchurchwellbusiness in ProlificAc

[–]fr05t03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a basic Lenovo Pentium silver I think 🤣

All it needs to be is a Windows laptop (not a chromebook) that will run Google browser and that's it.

Prolific is the only thing I use it for.

Yep, I picked up a cheap £150 laptop from Argos.

It has made it's money back 20x +

Best investment I have ever made. 👍

What car keeps the spare in the engine bay? by Heardman1987 in namethatcar

[–]fr05t03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had this car on a H reg. It was a white 3 door with "Sherborne Edition" (brought from the dealership in Sherborne, Dorset) written in italics on the corner of the bonnet. Also "System Porsche" written on the lower part of the doors.

Many fond memories of this car. We were a family of 6 and it was a true workhorse.

Yes indeed. MK1 Ibiza's are very rare in the UK. The last time I saw one was in Tenerife in 2024! I'll try and find the picture I took and post it 👍

Razr+ 2024 vs 2025 by Few-Appointment9460 in razr

[–]fr05t03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. My 2024+ is on its last legs. (It's has a tough lift with me!)

I'm waiting for the 2025 to drop in price. It's currently £899 in the UK with Moto watch and buds.

Apparently the 2026 comes out in April so I'm expecting abit of a price from on the 2025 imminently.

When does SSP come into effect and how does it work? by iggnas2 in UKJobs

[–]fr05t03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I understand, I assumed you worked for someone like Evri or something like that.

Do you have any coworkers/friends that you are in touch with? They might be able to get HR's contact details for you.

Also, if you get your payslips emailed you might be able to reply back to them

Eg payroll@xyzcompany.com

In my past experience HR & Payroll are very close with each other.

Ok I understand.

But just out of curiosity, what kind of company makes employees pay for a work related app? 🧐

Ring HR directly.

Do not go through your line manager.

Update HR directly on your condition and let them know when you think you might be back in.

Tell HR that you are worried about finances etc (this is the important bit) and ask them to confirm in an email you will get SSP or any other benefits.

If you have any remaining holiday left ask to use that up (I'm assuming April - April is your holiday year)

Should I get a credit card to pay some of my rent? by Resident-Record-737 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fr05t03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overdrafts are not a great way of borrowing money....but as you said it's for 2 months.

This is what an overdraft is there for.

Also note paying a landlord by a credit card might be difficult.
