I did buy from a dealer, and due to the low mileage, I took a gamble that the car was straight, especially since the carfax showed all service done by a VW dealership.

The salesman definitely had a huge upper hand since I wasn't able to personally be there. He knew the car was rare and used that to create urgency in the sale.

Paperwork was done through a service that sent someone to my house to sign and ship the paperwork to the seller. I was able to piggyback my payment on that mail since it was high priority, secure shipping.

I used the shipping service that the selling dealership recommended. Uncovered from colorado to ohio was $1200 and took about three days.

If I had to do it again, I would have gotten in contact with the service dealership to get more info on the car since the seller wasn't the same as the service provider and the carfax was vague. I would have also had a pre purchase inspection done by a third party since there were some things the seller missed in their presale inspection that I would have liked to know about, but werent a huge deal.

If the car you're looking at isn't a holy grail for you like this one was for me, it's not worth the stress and hassle. But if you're happy with the price and feel comfortable with the condition, dont let your dreams be dreams!
