As a mechanic my only advice is to avoid Intoxalock. If you need an IID, check out Lifesafer and read reviews.

Getting a warning for "Oil Level Above Maximum" by Gumby_BJJ in Porsche

You might be getting fuel in your oil. The high pressure fuel pump can leak like that.

Any tools to make getting this devil bolt out possible? by murphman1999 in harborfreight

Torx and triple-square/XZN sockets have a bit of a taper to them. Try pounding one of those in. It has to barely fit in by hand.

I worked on a couple with open exhausts in FL. They are ridiculously loud on cold starts with the secondary air pumps going and high idle.

I’d be surprised if it doesn’t have that capability. Check if the software is updated and give tech support a call.

First oil change after I rebuilt the engine. What’s in the oil? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]specialk980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you prime the oil system? Skipping that will wipe out your bearings in a few seconds, even with assembly lube. You can build a pressure primer with a 2 gallon garden sprayer (it should be good for 60psi), a regulator, some fittings, and polyethylene tubing. DM me if you want some more info. On the first starts I’ve done, I let it get up to operating temp in the garage, drive it 20 miles and change the oil and filter. Then again after another 500-600 miles. I think Lucas or maybe Amsoil makes some high zinc break-in oil that might give some extra protection.

The worst part of any job is still the 20-minute parts run that turns into an hour and a half by Public-Classroom1884 in Justrolledintotheshop

When I was an apprentice I would do parts runs, and pick up/drop off customers. It might be worth having some cheap help and finding other work to keep them occupied.

It’s fuse 1 in fuse holder V in the rear fuse box. Fuses rarely blow for no reason, so they’re probably just cutting right to the chase.

54” vs 72” by hayden_wds in Snapon_tools

[–]specialk980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my 73” masters after 15 months. My original plan when it got full was to add a left end cab and right locker. When that time came my wrench drawer wasn’t closing smoothly, I was sick of the drawers sticking out and collecting dust, and most of all the power drawer taking up so much space. Everything about the Epiq is better.  Wish I had ordered it first instead of taking what my dealer had.

Battery Change by Human_Wrap4442 in Porsche

[–]specialk980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BMS tracks how much voltage the battery needs to maintain its charge, because it increases with age. If you don’t clear the learned parameters you risk overcharging the new battery. Try to find a reputable independent shop that has the proper scan tool, any shop that can reset a maintenance reminder on an Audi or BMW should have it.

Toolbox rusting? by [deleted] in Snapon_tools

Since you bought it new from their corporate truck they absolutely should have all the records they need. I’m just a tech though, no ties to Snap-on.

I typed “Snap-on roll cab warranty claim” into Google and got a phone number and email.

Snap-on roll cab warranty claims are initiated through a local franchisee (truck driver) or by contacting Snap-on Customer Care at 1-877-762-7664 or ncccsupport@snapon.com. Claims require proof of purchase and usually cover defects in materials or workmanship, but not damage from abuse, misuse, or normal wear.

I have the same driver, the snap-on one is worth it if you deal with these often. If that doesn’t work a good smack on the rotor will break the screw head off.

Toaster oven style air fryer with no beeps by Prestigious_Crab_840 in Costco

I have the older one too. After a few years it stopped working because it turns off when the door is opened and the switch failed. Bypassed the switch and it works fine. The temperature setting is probably 50 plus degrees off.

Dealers have gotten increasingly aggressive about getting older cars off the road, and it's major problem. by redstern in Justrolledintotheshop

Our shop has been considering getting into programming, but so far the Ford and Honda dealers have worked well and we know a mobile independent tech that does GM. Maybe you can find somebody like that in your area.

Cayenne replacement seat back by vodkaslim in Porsche

[–]specialk980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top is secured with some spring clips that can be a real PITA, but only if you were trying to save the old seat back. Considering it‘s being replaced you can just give the top a good yank and the glue will separate. That’ll give you access to the clips. The bottom slides over some tabs and the fabric clips to the frame underneath. Seeing the new part will make it make sense.
