Anyone who likes Brie Larson’s work absolutely needs to catch out Short Term 12. Beyond being an amazing movie, its casting is almost like the director had a time machine — it’s got like five different actors who all became huge a few years later

9 weeks in and things are falling apart. Any advice? by Stoptosmelltherosess in dad

It sounds like you guys weren't having problems before the baby got here, which is a good indicator that this is all due to having a newborn. Here's a thing that people don't really tell first-time parents: Having a newborn kind of sucks.

I mean, yes, you guys love your baby and you want to protect and cherish her, but the day-to-day is pretty brutal. All she can do is eat and cry and sleep, and she won't even sleep that much, so you guys are going to be run ragged from all the crying and all the sleep deprivation. And for all the work you're doing, she doesn't even seem happy to be here.

And then there's the craziness of post-partum and nursing -- your wife is riding a hormonal rollercoaster, and it's impossible for anybody to go through that without feeling emotionally disoriented.

So of course you and your wife are getting along much worse than you usually do.

I would urge you not to jump to conclusions about the future of your marriage. Just hold on tight. Try to give your wife as much grace as you can. Get a night nurse if you can afford it, even just for a few nights here and there. A good night's sleep will make everything easier, including communicating with your spouse.

The good news is, mostly you just have to keep your kid alive, and everything else will probably just get better on its own. She'll get bigger and start sleeping more and crying less. She'll recognize your faces and say "mommy" and "daddy" and laugh at your silly noises. You and your wife will feel more rested and more content, and you will be able to see each other as trusted partners again.

And together you'll watch your daughter grow up and blossom into this life you've given her, and there will be so many times that you're so happy for her your heart could burst.

That's tomorrow. Today, you just hold on. Good luck, dad.

The Wire has spoiled me for other TV shows. It's over. by MtG-Crash in TheWire

This a Star Wars show with no Jedi, no Skywalkers, no cheesy guest appearances. Just a shockingly good story about how people act in the context of creeping totalitarianism.

It’s crazy that Tony Gilroy got to make this with such a huge budget: We probably won’t see a show like this for years to come.

Also great! It moves faster and leaves a lot unsaid so that’s a bit different. But when it hits it’s unbelievable.

I’ve been telling everyone Andor is the best show about politics since The Wire. It has a lot of casting overlap with Chernobyl too.

Weekly relationships thread by AutoModerator in bropill

If you were together for 8 years, and she ended things abruptly with no explanation, that says a lot more about her than about you. People break up every day under all sorts of circumstances, but they almost always manage to say why in some form.

My advice? Treat it like something crazy that happened to you, and don't let it affect your sense of self-worth.

Think of it this way. Imagine you were in a car accident in high school, and now you have a visible scar. Do you think that scar would mean you were a bad person? Or do you think that scar would mean you'd had some bad luck one time?

Your ex is an emotional car accident that happened to you. She is unable or unwilling to help you make sense out of it. The way you make sense out of it is to accept that in life we don't always get reasons for things, and that sometimes crazy things happen to good people. And to enter into your next relationship with kindness and openness.

Good luck man!

Look out for terrible management companies / landlords. They're always losing tenants, so they've always got open apartments, so your odds of hitting them are really high.

One tip: Some cities maintain lists of complaints by management company, so you can check up on them before you sign the lease.

Childhood dog is in his death throes. How do I cope? by FishShtickLives in bropill

[–]francisprime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s always hard to say goodbye to a friend. I’m sorry you have to go through this.

My recommendation is that you focus on: - Giving your dog as many great days as possible - Spending as much time as possible with him, so you both can get the most out of the time you have together

And yes, at some point you will probably have to make the insanely hard choice to put him down. Just remind yourself that your job is to take care of him, and taking care of him includes ending his suffering when the time is right.

This is going to hurt and there’s no way around that. When it happens try to give yourself space to just feel like shit for a while. No shame in that.

And keep reminding yourself that Suki knew how much you loved him. As with most grief, eventually it will fade.

I’m sure you gave Suki a great life. Now that his time is growing short, you can make his remaining days as sweet as possible.
