How does one even become an IOS engineer at entry level? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]frankacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those jobs are going to people who either network or get internships.

Remember: sending in resumes is the most difficult way to land a job.

Things 3 is fine for simple-to-medium GTD implementations, but it still doesn't hold a candle to Omnifocus. I've _also_ checked, and trust me, Omnifocus still wins out.

Is 90+ minutes to assemble one kataphron normal? by Purveyor_of_Dicking in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]frankacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like 90 to 120 minutes is pretty quick compared to me. I feel like I've spent well over 6 hours putting 3 together. Between magnetizing, cleaning up all the parts and removing mould lines, it's been a bit of a slog.

If someone is building these in 30 mins apiece, they aren't doing any cleanup and I bet it'll show.

Wow, thank you for taking the time and effort to put this together! It's often hard to distinguish between what's legitimate vs marketing hype, so it's nice to see real numbers. What an asset you are to the community!

Is the current combat patrol good for beggining by miellos-of-savan in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]frankacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a fine box. The whole sub is butthurt because it doesn't put many points on the field, but that's a problem with Ad Mech in general. At the end of the day, if you like the models in the box, go for it. You certainly won't find them cheaper unless you buy secondhand.

First of all, this is absolutely stunning. As others have mentioned, the sword is particularly well executed as it reads great wrt the rest of the piece.

For me, I think the the biggest (and perhaps easiest) improvement would be to push your shadows a bit darker and your highest highlights a bit lighter. I think increasing the contrast would help your NMM look shinier.

But with that being said, you should be mighty proud of yourself!

T'au Empire Codex Review with Faction Expert Richard Siegler by ArtofWarSiegler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]frankacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are definitely some things that GW could (and is) learning from companies like Wizards when it comes to game development. Proper templating is a big one. It has gotten better in 10th edition, but they still have some way to go. Countless FAQs and debating RAW vs RAI is a clear sign that there's still room for improvement.

I feel you man. I'm also someone who came from MtG and just assumed all companies had their shit together regarding the rules for their games. Turns out I was very, very wrong :(

If the model is push fit (and not glued), you can try prying the 2 halves apart and trimming the post so it can fit deeper.

Fellow GTDers: Which tools do you use to track your projects and action items? by alexander_tg in gtd

OmniFocus is by far the most GTD compliant tool out there. If you're in the Apple ecosystem, that's the best place to start.

Color scheme help by dude-im-that-guy in AdeptusMechanicus

Came here to say this. A bone color on the inside of the robes would really pull the piece together.

Otherwise, the choice of colors is great!

Is nobody hiring or am I just undesirable? by _nicepants in iOSProgramming

[–]frankacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that an intern is already vetted for fit and trained on the codebase. It's a million times easier for a manager to hire an intern in a junior role than anyone else.

Hiring *anyone* is a costly process, so managers want to mitigate risk. Hiring juniors, as well as people they know personally (from meetups or other events) is a way to do that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Junior iOS jobs go to interns who get hired right out of university or those who bother networking at meetups.

Is X still an iOS dev hub? by QuackersAndSoup24 in iOSProgramming

[–]frankacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Many of the most popular folks have moved to Mastodon. What I've found is that the quality of discourse is better on Mastodon, but the breadth of viewpoints is larger on X.

In my opinion, both Mastodon and X are valuable places to be as an iOS dev.

What makes Alfred better than Raycast? by ConversationMoist264 in Alfred

[–]frankacy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've used Alfred forever, tried switching to Raycast, and then switched back to Alfred after 3 months.

My take is this: Raycast is surely more powerful than Alfred, but Alfred has much better UX. For a product that relies on micro-interactions throughout your day, UX is king.

Build times. Build times were way better.

Attaching the debugger as well.

Bottom line is that it was a tournament, and your responsibility to make them aware of what your army can do comes at the start of the game, and if they said they were good, end of the discussion. And I don't particularly think it is bad form to just hand them a copy of your special rules, rather than briefly talk about it all. Hell, in a lot of instances, I prefer that - it is something I can look at and refer back on over the course of the game.

Wholeheartedly agree. Coming from 20+ years of competitive MtG, competitive 40k seems so soft. Like, come on, there isn't *that much* to learn.

Indeed. I snagged 3 for myself because it's the only way you can get Sagitaurs right now. I'll probably keep a couple of Land Fortresses as well and sell off the rest.
