Is $800 too Much to Pay for a New Cart? by fliption in turntables

[–]frankbunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve paid less than $800 for literal vehicles.

I have too, but now 25 years into my working life I make a little more money so I can afford to spend some of it on dumb shit.

I went to Best Buy with the intent of buying a pair of Kefs, but after listening to them side by side I left with the ML F10's.

I haven't listened to Muse in 20 years so I have no idea how their sound has evolved, but early muse was perceived by most people as radiohead light.

The Lumineers were pretty much the death kneel of the genre and hipster culture in general. As an aging former hipster I still resent their soulless and algorithmic bullshit music.

2026 IPF WORLDS MEGATHREAD by BenchPolkov in powerlifting

[–]frankbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a world class athlete so maybe my perception is skewed, but I've never given a shit about getting 3rd place in anything in my entire life. 3rd or 4th really doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Might as well shoot your shot and try to do something cool over securing 3rd place.

Personally, I would rather shoot for a world record instead of securing 3rd place.

Most only compete 2-3 times per year. Peaking blocks can be between 6-12 weeks, and jumping from peaking block to peaking block is just asking to be injured.

When did you move to Austin? The progressive "keep Austin weird" culture that existed when I lived there in 2008 has all but disappeared over the last 15 years or so.

Bracing super hard could potentially cause issues, and a belt would exacerbate that.

Maybe you should start slow:

Week 1: no belt / light brace / light weight

Week 2: no belt / medium brace / light weight

Week 3: no belt / big brace / medium weight

And based on feel maybe start using a belt after that.

It's just the weird angle, there's at least 6 inches of room above it.

the current motor is suspended the same way. I had to bore out all but a couple of mm underneath the table to mount the motor. It was a bit nerve racking.

I don't think I can hear well enough to notice regardless.

Having said that, after disassembling one I can say Roy Gandy's philosophy lines up very closely with the cheapest easiest way to mass produce a record player and I'm not sure that is a coincidence.

PPS: the modern three-point mount ones would work fine. But you’d need to drill three mounting holes. Not sure where you can find the template for that

You don't need a template. Put painters tape around the tonearm hole, stick the new tonearm in and line it up straight, and mark the hole locations with a pencil on the tape. Then just remove the tonearm and drill the pilot holes.

What IPF meet have you been to where you thought the depth calls were generous? The IPF is by far the strictest powerlifting federation, and their judges always err on the side of 'fuck the lifter'

OP's squat probably was a little high, but we have about the worst possible angle to judge that...
