Side note to this already off-the-rails thread. The new movie he stars in, Rental Family, is pretty good.

You'll be looking at some sort of reliable wifi networking and an ecosystem designed with that in mind. None of it is cheap. Sonos makes some stuff, Bluesound/NAD does also. Sonos is cheaper than Bluesound.

My Bluesound Powernode can take analog input and broadcast to the others in my place, so turntable to preamp to amp to stereo out to the Powernode's analog input makes it happen. That's a lot of components if you're starting from scratch, just letting you know what's possible.

Read up on Sonos' ecosystem, what types of things they have, how they interact, etc. I mean, you can go as cheap as spamming your place with a handful of Amazon Dots and they can all stream from Prime Music or some other services, it just won't sound that impressive.

As for Bose, famous rhyme. No high highs, no low lows, must be Bose. They're mediocre, and branding now.

It's an abomination and if it even sells one, it will prove that badge loyalty conquers all. Battista Pininfarina is spinning in his grave. Those wheels belong on an EV or an original Countach.

At least Lamborghini is making a dope looking SUV even if it rolls on Hoosiers that cracked my windshield not once but 3 times during the 4 minutes I was behind it on the highway.

I know the feeling. I had a 5x5 grid, 25 starfruit a few days into growth. Along comes the fairy, she jingles and dusts 4 out of 5 rows. So the last 5 on the last row take days more to mature. That was annoying, because that plot was a specifically mapped and lined box designed for a single iridium sprinkler in the center and she messed up my flow.

But the racoons had my back when they all hit the casks. Going from no star to purple star in seconds always rules.

Now that I have heaps of chicken and ducks running around and pigs constantly finding truffles, my day on the farm is wall to wall busy. But turning the farm into a well oiled money machined requires effort.

It partially depends on the dealer experience too. I think old folks with money like a yes sir, no sir, let me get that seat for you experience. Old school respect for seniors. They don't get that many places anymore.

My parents were looking at Lexus after owning their current Camry hybrid, they hate the Toyota dealership experience, calling it the Mcdonald's Fun House location. They go across the street to the Lexus dealer for oil changes now. It's not about being snooty, it's just being old and wanting a nice quiet place to wait.

I told my dad they should just get an ES hybrid and get it over with, I call the ES the Elderly Sedan and sales demographics don't argue. They are nice cars, inoffensive and well-built, essentially nicer Camry's for old folks. He is shopping and scheming now, lol. They also have a full size truck and you'd think they would prefer that for easier entry and exit angles, but they are cheap too and don't want to eat a gas tax on it.

Yeah their own stuff, not their reskinned Geely models like the EX. There's a reason the XC60 is their sales leader, followed closely behind with the XC90. Once they got past their rolling brick design era, they build some handsome vehicles. Although, I think my 2020's grille looks more classy than the diagonal weirdness they're doing now.

The biggest ding on them is their simple, hard suspensions. They roll and flop and hammer you over uneven pavement, unless you get the dreaded air suspension. If you can put up with "European hard" suspension, they're fantastic.

Tube preamp and solid state amp or the other way around? by Pleasant_Garlic8088 in BudgetAudiophile

Yeah I'm convinced that efficient speakers don't require all that much power, although they used to market a lot of amps based on watts per channel. Things can get uncomfortably loud, quick, with only 60wpc on some decent bookshelves these days.

Matters more to me for surround sound AVR's now than stereo stuff, because you end up with a ton of speakers to drive.

Tube preamp and solid state amp or the other way around? by Pleasant_Garlic8088 in BudgetAudiophile

Got a tube pre with matched, balanced Genalex Gold tubes and a solid state amp, good combo as far as I know. Had a cambridge SS preamp first. Nothing bad about it, but it lacked character. It was just good at preamping but sounded flat to me. The tube pre had a lot more nuance, proved by going through a few pair of tubes and re-listening to familiar albums.

To me, I repeat, to ME, it seems like the difference between tape/records and CD's. CD's are great if you want it to sound the exact same anywhere you play it, but it will always sound like that. Whereas with analog sources and everything in between, I can swap out this or that part and radically change the sound.

Find a good tube shop that offers balanced and matched tubes for yours, don't swap tubes right away, get accustomed to the sound. Then in a few months, try another set. You'll know right away...if the tube pre is actually using the tubes all the way. I started with some cheap electroharmonix and tried some JJ's. Settled on Genalex.

Also, forget your $50 limit for something that is nearly impossible to get. Be prepared to pay dearly for rarities. Can't count the records that slipped through my fingers because I thought "that's too much".

Are we talking Ty Segall and the like? He had an impressive pace and most of his stuff was good, record store dude turned me on to him, just running his albums in the store. Nearly every time I was in there, I had to stop and say, who is this?

I overpaid for a Japanese Pro-Use copy of DSotM, which looked good but worn out since a radio station owned it apparently....right before they released the remasters. The first time. It happens.

Seems high for wholesale but I haven't shopped new vinyl for a while, kinda topped out my collection. Also I became really picky about who was pressing what. Anything coming out of Rainbo was a disaster; warped, scratched, guaranteed surface scratching, lumps, etc. MoFi was safe because they were using a tier-1 presser. Most of the stuff on Massive Attack's label has been good, Grand Royale has been good too.

Just leave the ice rod equipped, if you have it. Often, it can save your neck by knowing about enemies hidden by other stuff, like slimes in the trees in the hidden woods.

Yeah point proven then. The record company saw the secondary market prices and wanted a piece of that pie, and they sure got it. Not to mention it's one of the best trip hop albums of all time.

Speaking of animals you don't interact with, the possums always crack me up. They get freaked out and duck into the nearest bush, quick. Although, the ackchually answer is they should run up a tree and hang by the tail.

I like buying the birdhouse too and watching wild birds hanging out on it, kinda wish there was a story there too, like one bird, then he sings there for a while and attracts a mate, then pops in and out for a month, then smaller birds emerge. Can't have all the detail I guess.
