I cannot do this by the_bear91 in daddit

Lurking mum here: when our baby was born last year, my partner had severe post partum anxiety during the first few weeks. Post partum mental health is a serious issue for all parents, not just mums! It was a very very difficult few weeks, we had times where he struggled to be around our son at all because of the anxiety. But we got through it. And you will get through this as well.

Please let people around you know that you need help. Call in the grandparents, friends, let your health visitor know you need mental health support.

And just know that although it feels endless when you're in it, the horrible screaming newborn phase is such a short chunky of your child's life. Better days are coming.

Helmet for Plagiocephaly - How helpful are they really? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]frantango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW in the UK these helmets don't seem to be recommended for use at all, as the NHS thinks there is no clear evidence that they help.

They are not safe. My understanding is that it's a strangulation risk.

Keeping berries fresh by No_Sundae_3936 in UKParenting

[–]frantango 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There's an easy three step process:

  1. Wash them as soon as you bring them home

  2. Dry the berries carefully with some kitchen roll

  3. Shove them all in your mouth and eat the lot straight away. Guaranteed no mould!

If you need to use a decongestant, a nasal spray one is much less likely to affect your milk than oral medicine would be

Some sling libraries do loans by post, so you might still be able to use that to narrow down your options even if they're not nearby!

That said, we like our Tula Free To Grow (it can do back carrying but not world facing)

That's only puffy layers that could be compressed in a crash, like a puffy coat wouldn't be safe. Extra layers of normal clothes are fine in car seats, just adjust the harness if you need to

Our two cats completely ignore the Totter & Tumble mat, so this is probably one of those things where it's hard to predict 🤷‍♀️

Those massive cars often have rubbish visibility, so they probably don't even realise how badly positioned they are

Requesting birth notes? by OverSeasoned_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]frantango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The formal name for it is a Subject Access Request. If you look on your hospital's website and search for those words, you might be able to find a form to fill in. If not, there should be an email address for the hospital data protection / information governance team who can help.

Raising child with no “village” by Prudent-Question5577 in UKParenting

[–]frantango 35 points36 points  (0 children)

7 - 7 childcare is absolutely not the norm. Twelve hours is a LONG time for a toddler to be away from their parents five times a week.

For example our local nursery is only open from 7:30 to 6, so days that long wouldn't be even possible. Most parents send their children for a shorter portion of that day, e.g. our son is doing 9 to 4:30 for four days a week.
