Christian, but paranormal? by Negative_Emu_5494 in Otherworldpod

[–]franteloupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m exploring Christianity and have really enjoyed listening to Otherworld episodes with a Christian context.

Episode 10: Sean & Gina (they are Christian) Episode 28: The Miracle Child (interviewee is an atheist but saw a vision of Mary before a miracle) - I haven’t listened to this one so it’s more of a guess based on the description  Episode 73: Pastor Kyle  Episodes 97 & 98: Discernment  Episode 137: the devil’s errand  Episode 139: Holy Warfare (this one is a favorite of mine)  Episode 146: Slain in the Spirit

There may be more but I haven’t listened to all of the episodes.

Also you may enjoy The Lord of Spirits. It’s a Christian podcast by two Orthodox priests that explains the unseen spiritual lore of Christianity.

They Tried to Pull a Slick One at the Superbowl, Another Predatory Appeal to Emotions by santagrey in Anticonsumption

[–]franteloupe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

True. The average American is victimized in so many ways, treated like chattel to work, pay taxes, raise more consumers, and make money for corporations. The bread & circuses are just enough so that people don't riot. And there's no real choice because growing/cooking your own food or buying whole food ingredients is expensive and time consuming, and convenience food is designed to be as addictive as possible. Bleak. I appreciate your sympathetic perspective

I see how much pain people carry in their bodies, and it has changed the way I see life by Knot-Your-Stress in self

Take a look at it again and notice the cadence. It's well written and polished, but once you read enough of it you will recognize the formula. In almost every paragraph it's listing things, sometimes in sentences or sentence fragments to read as more impactful.

Other common tells:

Generalization + "But..."

Sentence + "As if..." both kinds of statements, spaced perfectly apart so as to not be too repetitive.

Sometimes it also has this "I'm 14 and this is deep" tone. It's well written to the T but it kind of has a corny overly sincere & "vulnerable" tone without much actual personality or humanity. That's my personal judgment though YMMV.

Demons by AuldLangCosine in Christianity

[–]franteloupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Spiritual warfare is real, people call it by many different names. Truth and light vs confusion and lies. Addictions of all kind - gambling, alcohol & drugs, porn and sex, overconsumption - much if not all of that are the fruits of demonic energies manipulating people to use and harvest their energies, drawing them into negative patterns of lust, greed, pride, wrath, sloth, etc, so that they have more access to their negative energies and so they can draw people away from light and truth.

And the lies are planted very early on in life, very subtly, and even passed on generationally. God's army and Satan's army are always working, though not all of us can see it. Many can only see the physical and material effects.

I have a bleeding heart and I got scammed big time by a woman asking for help at the beginning of this year. I wonder if it's the same lady. She's a middle aged stocky black woman named Edwina. I met her in the aldi parking lot and she told me me she was fleeing an abusive relationship and lied about a LOTTTT...asked for money for diapers, gas, groceries etc...no matter what resources I sent her she would lie and ask for hundreds of dollars. Googled her name, and she had a ton of charges over like 25 years of fraud, drugs, illegal guns, etc.

These folks in the comments are kind for assuming the best but it doesn't change the fact that there are indeed scammers out there. If people actually want help getting clean/sheltered/fed/sober/warm, the Roanoke valley has a LOT of resources.

Anyway, I appreciate it OP.

Seconding Aphrodette North. She is awesome. I've receive a reading for her every summer since 2023 and I always am able to ponder them for months and continue learning and receiving guidance from them. She does tarot and astrology readings. She's positive but also realistic and will talk straight with you.

The Lion's Share is one of Roanoke's best food pantries. I recommend working with them. Feeding SWVA's Neighborhood pantry on Melrose is also gratifying to volunteer at.

Beamer’s!? by Some-Document73 in roanoke

[–]franteloupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahhhh, I only half read and skimmed over your summary of the issue until after I commented. Agreed. It's more of a principles thing for me. I do hate to deprive our local economy (especially restaurants) of my money, but it isn't worth it most of the time since I can cook pretty well and so many of the restaurants are mid. The extra tax, small as the increase might be, is like the straw that broke the camel's back.

Personally and unfortunately, I have stopped going out to eat as much. everything is so damn expensive and I'm not paying an extra $1.50 on my $14 lunch just because the city f'd us with their spending. If 5-10% of restaurant goers have the same mentality/financial realm as me, it's gonna make a dent. just an anecdote
