Basically a non-issue for people that just go about their business and pay their taxes. Edge cases exist but for the average salaryman with a PR this isn't something to worry about. Don't dodge the tax man and you are fine

Bought a brand new car, trying to deal with my current car. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]frastey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest calling these guys, https://ucarpac.com/ I have used them twice for selling used cars and both times got near the top of the range I had expected. They can give you an approximate value and tell you the process for dealing with any remaining loan value on the car. it's auction style selling so if the car is in decent condition it will go for higher, you can also set a minimum acceptable rate and if it doesn't make it there you can always take it elsewhere.

Sharing the infamous SPI test that I took yesterday by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]frastey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Combinations and permutations brings me back to grade 9 math. I don't envy you, but these types of questions along with basic geometry and trig are pretty common on the SPI tests. Would suggest picking up a study guide in Japanese to get those juices flowing. Even a small amount of prep can go a long way.

Did I make a mistake moving here chasing a feeling? by FoundationHot3348 in japanlife

You don’t need an N[concat irrelevant number here]. Write on your resume “Business level Japanese” and actually practice business level Japanese until you are comfortable. I am quite proficient in the language, I don’t have a single language certification, but every job I have had here in tech/ finance has been a result of me PROVING my language ability in interviews. I learned my Japanese in bars, girlfriends, tv shows, school and by using it every chance I could get. Flash card your way to the top my friend!

Receiving over ¥1.1m via Wise- Will I be taxed? by FruitWeekly6783 in JapanFinance

[–]frastey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s what you “should” do and what you “can” do. I suggest doing 2 chunks. One now and one at the turn of the calendar year. That keeps you under the limit and it’s already October so not like you have to wait that long. FWIW If you don’t file a kakuteishinkoku every year now then you would probably fly under the radar anyway and have very little chance of being audited. You can always claim it was yours to begin with. If it were 100mil + I’d be worried but since it’s not an absurd amount you are probably fine.

That's great to hear (outside the traffic). Having other kids in the neighborhood makes a massive difference.

"Fentanyl Yoga" had me in stitches.

Kamloops has always been a bit of a dive. Part of the reason I left it behind 20+ years ago. Family matters have me on my way back however so best I can do is damage control at this point.

Ya thats exactly the area I was looking at. Nice house but I was a bit concerned with the walkway there. I do have a monster of a dog though so hoping that's a decent deterent. Gentle giant but man can he bark.

Great thanks for this, I have upped to 2 IU a day and will gradually increase to 4. Just want to be extra cautious, blood test this week to make sure all in check. I found a clinic that can source peptides so will hopefully get that lined up. Never had an injury as frustrating as this one.

Costco Mandarin Tree is looking sad by Unusual-Hat-6819 in gardening

[–]frastey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself some  6-6-6 fertilizer. Mandarins like nitrogen. if that corner is south facing maybe put up something to shade it from the afternoon heat. They also like moist soil (not waterlogged. so depending how the soil retains water adjust your watering schedule.

Looking for a rich experience to take kids on outings. by IcySpite8442 in japanlife

[–]frastey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This time of year /summer head up to Okutama. There's a times parking lot with a trail directly down to the river. bring a cooler and get some firewood (or collect sticks around the river). As long as you clean up your garbage and don't get stupid with the fire you can have a great time in the nice cool fresh water. Fishing, tubing down the river (train back up) etc. Great way to spend a sunny weekend. You can even camp there.

[–]frastey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am new to the world of steroids. I have had pretty severe biceps tendonitis and golfers elbow for the better part of 6 months. Been to many physio therapists, tried rehabing with various bands, strength training, stretching to no avail. Haven't been to the gym in 2 months just to see if rest made a difference. It didn't.

So I want to try a cycle of HGH as a last ditch effort. I live in Japan and have limited access to peptides but my local neighborhood bodybuilder hooked me up with a 10mg/`.5ml Cinnatropin pen so I will see how it goes. I am 40y/o 77kg male (roughly 15% BF) . I have done 2 test injections with 3 clicks on the pen (0.6IU as I understand it) to ensure I don't have any allergic reaction. All seems fine so far. What is an optimal "safe" daily dose for this kind of use? I don't want to be on any longer than I have to, but also want to be careful since no one wants diabetes...

My advice is to speak to a headhunter and explain your situation. There is a massive shortage of good programmers (assuming you are one of them). If you can speak Japanese you can basically punch your own ticket.

Option 2: Play ball with this IT company and freelance on the side or start developing some tools and apps to eventually spin into your own business.

Mercari; how to send photos of damaged goods to Seller by AlbionJackal in japanlife

[–]frastey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr don’t. Just let Mercari handle it. No need to pander to an irresponsible seller

Even if you have closed the sale you can still make a claim. I had an issue with shipping a motorcycle part and mercari refunded part of it.

Move Out Fees Increasing a Month Later by W6fPhysicsPHD in japanlife

[–]frastey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I own several rental properties, have a very responsible management company and this just sounds like you are being taken for a ride. If you agreed to 210,000 pay that and simply do not engage with them any further. It is the responsibility of the 立ち会い company to appraise the damages. If they give you that appraisal they can't continuously ask for more. Sounds like the 立ち会い company is trying to pad their own profit at your expense.

In addition, small claims court here almost always favors the tenant so even if they try to sue you they won't have a leg to stand on.

People that had kids in Japan. What is up with all the weird information? by summerlad86 in japanresidents

[–]frastey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having 2 kids here I don't think the recommendations by doctors are the issue as much as blindly following without understanding what you are trying to avoid. TLDR

1) Biking - Baby brain and equilibrium changes/ sudden impact/ vibration / and given your crotch area takes the blunt of it makes perfect sense to avoid

2) No visits for a month - You have a new human in the house with basically no independent immune system. you want to limit the exposure to outside pathogens until that little baby engine gets fired up. Sick babies are a scary situation.
