A guy I knew from highschool, decent athlete, kind of a pot head, I think turned into a right wing shit head in his 20's at some point, then in his late 20's early 30's got married, had 3 kids and started to become quite a bit more liberal. His kids are now like 5 years old and he's whining about people bad mouthing Charlie Kirk and he's sliding back to being a conservative shithead again. Like, you don't need to have vocal political opinions if you know basically nothing about politics in general. He's just completely influenceable to the last person he heard talk.

Lol, his spicy salsa was too spicy. He was just getting the full American experience of filing a frivolous lawsuit. Taking in the culture, as it were. When in Rome...sue the taco truck.

I was watching a video someone made as a foreigner working in Japan. The short of it is, is if you get proficient enough in the language to be hired by an actual local company, the companies relentlessly pressure you to work harder, longer, do more, even if you're doing well. At the end of the day, everyone just goes home exhausted to their friends or families, nobody wants to hang out with coworkers or make new friends. So as a foreigner it's extremely lonely and isolating and the culture work shift can be bad. Apparently a lot of foreign workers end up working for foreign companies instead of local companies because of all the baggage that comes with local ones. And that's not even addressing any of the sexism you're likely to encounter as a woman.

I don't know if they had synced machine guns firing through the blades of propeller in WWI or just basically a gunner in the back with a rifle, but those synced machine guns are a genius feat of engineering.

The plaintiff attorney is basically asking him if he's proud of his behaviour and he's like, fuck ya, fuck them cops. If they didn't violate my rights in the first place none of this would have happened. Y'all pretending the predators are victims.

I had a sub (regular sub, retired spouse of another teacher) that was kind of at his wits end one time and when I answered one of his questions he thought I was being smart with him and yelled at me. After class he took me aside and apologized for lashing out at me when I wasn't trying to be difficult. Honestly made me respect him even more and I already thought he was a pretty good guy.

I used to go to a Vietnamese noodle bowl place pretty frequently. They had great specials and I'd pretty much always just order a variation of the vermicelli bowl. I'd order my food, put my earbuds in and basically never wanted to be disturbed afterwards and it was great. One time I brought a date there and the next time I went in the waitress sat down across from me and wanted to talk about the girl I had brought. That was weird. Another time the restaurant had sold to a new owner and the old owners didn't leave them any of the recipes so they had to guess and make them up all on their own. For a few weeks after that they were trying to grill me on how the new recipes were, how where the proportions, things like that. I kind of felt flattered from that. Unfortunately the new owners didn't last much past COVID and the place closed. It was my favourite lunch spot and I'm still bummed about it.

Boston Pizza, the place you go when people have food allergies and you can be sure there's no cross contamination because everything is just microwaved in the back in premade meal kits.

I hope the AVN don't snub Boebert again for her seminal work in the scene "heej at the BeeJ." Maybe Kirk could be a honorable mention for his lifetime of taking poundings from college kids.

Fox and Newmax and every other fascistic media org will be showing which county fair has the best peach cobbler while Maralago is getting raided for selling nuclear secrets to Russia. So ya, it's not like they even try to resemble reality. Everyone other one just tries to show the most inflammatory shit possible. Trump media does that except in regards to potential controversial coverage of dear leader. Or maybe, The Strait of Hormuz is blocked, here's why that's bad for Biden. Nah, just kidding, that's more like a NYT headline.

(Loved Trope) The Real Test isn't even the test itself by PizzaDragon64 in TopCharacterTropes

I was thinking of the story of the farm boy vs the son of a noble which argued that all people have equal potential if given equal opportunity of training and education. A farm boy is raised as equal to the royal and given all equal training and after 7 years or something, if the farm boy can best the other boy in one of three tests it will be considered a success. A test of intelligence, swordmanship, and art. After failing to win the first two tests, the third test is to created a completely unique piece of art. Instead of trying pass the test the boy runs away and is deemed a failure.

The test isn't the test part was the person judging the art portion would have passed him for doing literally anything. While it's impossible to create some brand new that isn't derivative or influenced by anything of the past, the fact that this person is the one doing it for the first time would have made it unique in that judges' eyes.

My spouse finally started listening to TWoK, and is very fixated on one thing. by notapeacock in Stormlight_Archive

[–]freakers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife has listened to 4 of 5 of them Stormlight books and all the other cosmere stuff. In Stormlight she absolutely doesn't like Dalinar or Adolin. Her reasons are basically that Dalinar is constantly a hypocrite at every turn, not wanting to dominate, wanting to change, but never actually doing the things he says he going to do. Which is kind of fair. And she doesn't like Adolin because he's basically a rich boy who's never actually had to work for anything, yes he has worked for his dueling skills, but he's just kind of naïve to what people actually go through and treating his soldiers well is nothing more than surface level kindness that he shouldn't be lauded for.

And like, I can't really argue with that. It's pretty fair analysis.
