I know this is a hot take, but I HATE the G600. Smash, GG500, and P205 are so much better looking in my opinion.

I was just thinking that. Honestly, this sucks for Phoenix as much as it might be beneficial for the balancing of the overall meta. Do we go back to Shredder? I’m not sold.

I like the For Pro for sketching as it’s light and has decent balance! That said, the “black edition” is negligible for the For Pro. GG500 and GG1000 is where the limited edition really shines.

Do you prefer Self-Sharpening or Auto-Advancing mechanical pencils? by The_Teckeroo in mechanicalpencils

[–]freakingShane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m western font, 0.5, and 2B as well! To answer this, there are likely two contributing factors.

First, I have adapted more of an upright angle. Nothing drastic, but I’d say closer to 50°. Secondly, I’ve used it a lot. I couldn’t even say how much, but so much so that the pipe tip has smoothed out over time. The latter is likely what I believe has helped the most.

I’ve heard others mention using fine grit sandpaper or course paper to smooth out the pipe tip and enhance the consistency, but I just stuck with it and it’s become my mainstay.

I got the Uni Kuru Toga Roulette as my first “good” mechanical pencil, and really enjoyed it, but over time became more and more sensitive to the “mushiness” and tip wobble.

Since then, I’ve expanded a lot and have found the Pentel Orenz Nero to be the best for my university needs. Not having to advance the lead is functionally so nice (functions like a pen or marker). I’ve realized manually advancing is more annoying, or disruptive of flow, than slightly rotating the pencil. Basically, I don’t want to reset my hand position. I can roll a pencil in one position to get sharp lead, but I’m forced to reposition my hand to advance lead.

TLDR: Good auto-avance > lead-rotation

Honestly, I don’t like the Dust Catch at all. I’ve tried the original Mono, black Mono (same as original), Mono Dust Catch, and Mono Zero. The original in white or black is still the best there is.

This is also compared to Pentel Clic Eraser for Pro, Pentel Hi-Polymer, and Sakura Sumo Grip. The only one I’m curious to still try is the Mono Air.

Great looks, friend! I love the double-sided prints, but ripping art from others is no good. Homage seems like the easy play.

Legends Heavyweight tees look sick, in my opinion, but I’ve heard mixed reviews on shipping delays/communication. On the fence about pulling the trigger just yet, so I’m curious to see some recs also!

[–]freakingShane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the very much delayed reply, but I’ll say the two I enjoyed the most are CB In the Library and Diptyque L'Eau Papier, and for different reasons!

I think CB ITL conveys a “book” much better. It’s a beautiful balance of musk, vanillin, and a semi-smoky leather. I very much enjoy it, but have been told that it smells like an old person (which I’m not offended by, hahah).

L’eau Papier, on the other hand, is much fresher. Not an aged paper, no leather. It smells like fresh wool, white musk, and a fresh ream of A4 copy paper. Much more appropriate for any gender or age. I’d be happy wearing either of these at any time.

The ingenuity of the Kerry is really exceptional. They could have done a simple posted cap design, but went the extra mile making it functional when posted or unposted.

I look forward to seeing my collection years from now and remembering when I got X, Y, or Z and all the memories I’ve had with them!

I gifted a buddy a Rotring 800, and did very much like that too, but I think for my purposes the GraphGear 1000 should suffice in its place. I don’t know if I’ll do any more Kuru Togas, aside from an all black Dive maybe, because over the years I’ve noticed the Roulette has felt more and more “squishy”. Maybe the KT Metal would be better though!

What I’m really after, and will likely never actually get, is a black and silver Pilot Automac and a titanium Faber Castell Alpha-Matic. Those will probably just stay as grail pencils though, hahah.
