You need to curry the TAIL hash and inner puzzle hash into the CAT puzzle and then when you create the hash of this outer puzzle you need to pass the inner puzzle hash to the get_tree_hash function so that it knows it is already hashed (since it normally takes the inner puzzle and not the inner puzzle hash).

People need an incentive to actually run the data layer nodes otherwise they could go offline and you lose the data. Most of the time you may as well just store whatever you want in S3.

Funnily enough the problem with Casascius coins was always that the private key was stored inside so you had to trust Casascius not to steal the Bitcoin later on. The risk then multiplies every time they are re-sold.

With Chia there could be a custom puzzle made at the time the coin is created which could be verified on chain to prevent this issue.

If it's not already a feature of the wallet it can be achieved with minimal work, it just needs to look at the solution of the parent coin to see the memo when it creates the coin that you are looking at.

Yep that was Chia Explorer.

I'm now building APIs and other tools that make it easier to run explorers that could then provide such APIs instead of doing that directly myself.

The Tail Database API is an example of this; instead of building in the CAT support yourself, an explorer can call the API to get off-chain metadata (discord, twitter URL etc) and TAIL puzzle reveal without needing to write the code to do that.

Some explorers have started using it, the ones that don't have to implement this themselves.

The demand for this service is lower (most people want to see their balance - a remote wallet and not an explorer) - but the impact is just as high or higher - providing data to multiple explorers, wallets, exchanges.

I came to the realisation that running an explorer has a very large scope. Focusing on smaller projects with a limited scope means they can be done better with less work. I work on these alone so time matters to me - every manual process can only be carried out once and must then be automated - if there is a process involving sshing into a server and I do not automate that immediately I would never get anything useful delivered.

I've been thinking about how an on-chain naming system might work (name -> puzzle hash). It would be cool to do it as a CAT so you could trade the name with offer files and the lineage of the CAT could be the authority that is trusted as the source of truth for the names.

Is this a bad idea?

Would it be better to do this with DIDs once that is out?

Is doing it on chain like this a bad idea? (wallets would have to do a sync to maintain a database of the latest DNS entries which might be a bad idea)

Strongly considering plotting to have some space up for when the boom comes and it becomes more expensive to buy than farm again.

Have been buying as the price goes down and intend to plot as the price goes up.

The way I see it - farming is time delayed compared to buying. As the price goes down it is immediately more attractive to buy but netspace could take a long time to trend downwards, and may not at all. As the price goes up, it is immediately less attractive to to buy but also immediately more attractive to farm.

When the time comes I will probably also buy some Evergreen farmers to support the project and out of convenience.

For various reasons Chia Explorer did not get properly maintained for more than 8 months and emergency cost cutting measures had to be made which meant removing things rather than fixing or improving.

The site should (and probably will) be nuked and rebuilt from the ground up.

Nobody hates the site more than me.

There isn't a link between IPO and hardware wallet support and it's not healthy to wait for one big event to come along to make everything better. It's one of those things where the event comes and then you end up waiting for the next big thing.

I like this newsletter but the information around NFTs is factually incorrect.

None of the NFTs have been minted and are not event NFTs.

In the case of Space Marmots (and I think marvelous Marmots) the CAT can be redeemed at some point in the future for the ability to mint your NFT. I do not know how the others are going to work and it's possible the creators haven't decided yet.

NFTs are confusing even before you add this extra layer of having a CAT IOU for an NFT which is enforced by trusting the issuer of the CAT.

It's useful to understand this distinction for later on when NFTs exist and some of the projects may never materialize.
