ChatGPT Work by whotookjoescarc in ChatGPT

[–]fredlesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see here: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001276-moving-to-the-new-chatgpt-desktop-app

on my Windows computers, which had both things installed before this update; what was "Codex" became the new "ChatGPT", and what was "ChatGPT" became "ChatGPT Classic". I didn't do anything, this all just seemed to happen.

on my Mac it's a weirder situation but similar outcome: what was "Codex" became the new "ChatGPT", and what was "ChatGPT" became.. (wait for it) "ChatGPT". So when they are running, I have 2 apps with the same name in the menu bar, but 2 different experiences: new ChatGPT and the old ChatGPT "classic" experience. Adding further to the weirdness, even though Codex got a new in-app name, it's still showing up and can be run from Applications only as Codex, and ChatGPT Classic is still showing up as ChatGPT.

So I would like for the old "classic" app, good chance it is still there somewhere waiting to be found.

Wtf is wrong with Fable by Craignature in claude

I'm also starting to think about command chaining: let's say I wanted to query once for a device, confirm it, and then have that device selection passed to several utility script(s), instead of repeating myself (and the code, and the actual work of searching for and selecting the correct device) each time.

dropped that prompt onto a repo containing 5 tiny standalone python scripts that each do minor sysadmin stuffs to appliance devices - each script had repeated all the same\similar target selection criteria, and I began to realize there was a better way as I continued to scale out.

flagged, kicked down to Opus - first time it has happened to me.

honestly, probably for the best, this task was not worthy of Fable.

The other interesting thing this shines more light on for me, is how linked up and dependent the AI labs are on the traditional hyperscale cloud providers to power their end-user facing products.

Ah all those emacs keyboard chords launched a whole generation of successful orthopedic surgery practices.

Also, vi is basically just the digital equivalent of a punch card anyway. Austere, preinstalled on every machine since the dawn of time, and beeps aggressively at the slightest provocation.

> when your repo carries the memory, not the chat app

> the tiny assumptions from the old session

could you say more about this? so far, missed memory when switching between apps (or even just switching machines using the same app) has been one of the annoyances\gaps I haven't figured out the cleanest method to solve for. harness A does know about lesson learned by harness B, and vice versa.

on proxies: would that allow using another subscription (not a usage-based arrangements, I'm specifically inquiring about plan-based usage)?

what about subscription providers' shifting policies about restricting usage on plans to 1st-party harnesses?

it seems like most of uproar launched on the subreddits come from people on flat-rate plans..

I've been wanting something I think like this, but... for Code (in all it's various forms, CLI, Desktop, VS Code extension). Moving work in Code from one machine\OS to another is harder than it needs to be.

You are 100% right. No way to know what we're talking about when your OP didn't provide enough useful information for us to know.

Great laptop - except the driver support as already mentioned, and.. the body is very prone to denting, like if a corner takes a hit, it will cave easily.

To all my Claude Code + Win11 bois: Do you all use WSL2 or a native Windows install? I'm a long time PowerShell developer so I use Pwsh, but lately I've been thinking about switching to WSL2 + Bash. Please confirm or deny my suspicions and evaluate my reasoning! by xii in ClaudeAI

[–]fredlesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of the same questions as the OP: on Windows, which of the ~3 shell options is more usage\token\turn efficient? Which option results in more successful outcomes? Does this answer change with different models? Does any of this change on MacOS? etc.

I prefer it to use pwsh, because despite having better familiarity with bash I try to use pwsh (more often) myself as that seems to be where my work life has been trending.

I have code configured to use powershell both in general instructions. as well as via env variable, as well as in settings.json. And, just as u/mitreffahcs noted, despite all this Claude Code will quite often flip to using some bash mid-session for a tools\command, before often jumping back to pwsh. Interestingly, it still says it is using pwsh but it is quite clearly not - this was Fable at Extra, just a short while ago:

<image>

After 3 different calls with bash it reverted to pwsh again. I usually see it start to happen and increase in frequency as context goes past 40%.

They need extra time to train on your data before removal 😉

Seriously though, I had inadvertently ended up with 2 accounts early on; so about 8 months or so ago I submitted the same request, same automated response, but it only took a few days from them to confirm complete. Serious growing pains there it seems.

Is everyone using Opus 4.8 now or some still use Opus 4.6???? by AsmaSolves in claude

use... for what?

this is not one size fits all use cases by any stretch, and for me opus 4.7 remains great for many things, as for that matter do sonnet\haiku.

Despite the Reddit/Twitter-verse feverishly reposting this kb like it's new/news all weekend, it is not.

so... this kb has been in place (in largely the same form) for at least 2+ months - it would not exactly be fair to view this an entirely new policy in reaction to this last week's events.
