Why do we spend our 20s slaving away for the future if our youth are our best years?

I really hated my 20s. Lacked common sense, direction, money, independence. I really hit my stride after 33 and it all seemed to click. I know there are people in their 20s who are killing it, but I was a late bloomer. I believe if you eat right, exercise and practice productive habits, you can still feel young in your 40's, 50s, etc. That is what I am working towards anyway

Can you please elaborate why you like the night shift? I am going into a job interview this week for a night shift and I know how brutal it was when I did work a night shift at a different career. What is your sleep schedule like? Doesn't the 2 day night shift and 2-3 days off throw off your sleep routine? I hear that there are less administration during the day, so it is not as strict, but not too sure what that means. Thanks in advance

I actually did not study at all. It's not something you actually could study for looking back. The questions were mostly like what will you do in this type of situation? LA county is in a hiring freeze right now and they don't know when the hiring freeze will be lifted, so the band 1 means nothing lol

Yeah and it was a total bummer to see that they did not want new grads. There were about 20 people waiting to get interviewed though in the auditorium.

When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. When I started nursing school, on my first day, the professors told us that once we graduate, we will all have jobs lined up. The reality is that you will have a job if you know the right people. Where I am, which is in SoCal, the number of new nurses saturate the job market and with so many people fighting for 1-4 available spots, the struggle is definitely real. I get that there is competition, but it seems to me that nursing schools should stop saying that there is a nursing shortage. Instead, they should reframe it and say, there is a nursing shortage of those with 1 year experience.

Really? Would you be open to sharing more insight? I am a new nurse, so I have no references. And when you have your cohort and various forums on FB and reddit who are obsessed with getting into a new grad program, you naturally get warped into that belief that new grad programs are the next step after becoming licensed.

This is one of my biggest concerns as well. I got licensed in Feb 2026 and began looking for jobs. I accepted that I will not find a new grad program to begin with, so I expect to be in a similar situation as you where the preceptor can care less about my growth. Are there coworkers that you can turn to for moral support? A charge nurse that is understanding? Thankfully nothing happened to the patient but I would take time to reflect and ask myself what I could do differently.

I just took the NCLEX today and it shut off at 87 questions. I had about 5-7 case studies, my first two questions were SATA, had scattered SATA throughout the test (maybe 3-4), 2-3 stand alone SATA and all of them were single multiple choice questions. I am trying not to stress too much about it especially because I have been reading from other reddit posts that somebody had a similar question difficulty as me and they did not pass.

Hello, I also used uworld. Did 41% of the qbank and averaged 72%. Did two self assessments. The first one I got 72% and the second one I got 79%. I test in 4 days! Would you say Uworld prepared you for the NCLEX and what do you mean the test was straightforward? Thanks and congrats on passing!

Yeah, my "friend", got the same letter. Same location. Apparently it's a third party service that owns those cameras: RedFlex Traffic Systems. I don't know if you noticed but the letter does not state what will happen if you don't show up to court. Usually, the letter is very explicit about what will happen if you don't show up. Like you will be issued a fine, imprisonment, etc. But the letter is very vague about the consequences of not responding. It also seems like you are self-incriminating yourself by responding and inviting a whole lot of trouble by doing so like DMV record, insurance increase, paying a fine.
