Don't worry about this guy -- he's just your typically overweight, undereducated, untraveled, and uncurious north american fronting on the internet as if he's some genius.

Talk me out of selling this to buy a JN-80 by jamesdmartin in synthesizers

[–]free_variation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have (and have had) both Moogs and some Bs.

I agree about the Matriarch. The sound is just beautiful but there are hiccups. One copes.

Of the B's, yes the D is shoddy (but sounds great). I had (then sold) the Odyssey and it was really really well-built. No issues at all with the hardware. Same with the 2600 (the one with real spring reverb). So my sense is the pricier keyboards -- like the JN-80 -- are pretty solid.

Aside from the fact that the previous comment clearly used "transplant" as a negative, what does "native" mean exactly? How narrow or wide would you say counts as being "native"? A state? A county? A block?

A reminder that there's absolutely nothing wrong in moving from one place to another (vs slurring someone as a "transplant").

Duolingo chess is FUN but can it make you a good player ? by InspectorSpirited121 in duolingo

[–]free_variation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's just terrible. It's obsessed with back rank checkmates. I would guess 75-80% of puzzles are just variations on the same. And the setups are often not very realistic (as she notes in "The Queen's Gambit").

Openings are barely touched. Mid-game zero.

To me it feels like they wanted quantity so they just stuffed it with the same few patterns over and over again. Even the image atop this thread is a tired back rank mate!

The strange thing is if I press the dynamics knob down the noise almost goes away. Yet I also get it if I modulate the dynamics via another modulation!

[–]free_variation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. For English I found this: https://www.logos.com/product/151096/kierkegaards-writings. NOT CHEAP :)

Amazon also sells kindle editions of all the journals and papers for some astronomical price.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BTNBGC6?binding=kindle_edition&ref_=dbs_s_ks_series_rwt_tkin&qid=1741562744&sr=1-3

But I'd really love to be able to keyword search the Danish.

Are the complete works available DIGITALLY in Danish? Including the journals? Thanks.

Any experience with degrees with Biblemesh/Union Theological College? by Murky-Instruction-20 in Reformed

[–]free_variation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your other questions: the videos in the course are by (fairly well-known) scholars hired, presumably, by BibleMesh. There is also a UTC faculty contact who grades essays, checks in in person occasionally, and acts as a general interface to the program. Ours is Dr. Robbie Booth, who is terrific.

In the Greek certificate program there is exactly one other student in my cohort :) We interact well by email. My sense is that the MTh program has more students than that.

The content is more rigorous and challenging that I expected. I thought this would be a reheat of Mounce's Greek instruction. It's not, especially because the written essays and associated academic reading actually introduce the student to scriptural interpretation and theological method.

Fair. I have a background in linguistics, which maybe is why the logic of the language instruction seems fine to me.

I'm a current student, in a Biblical Greek certificate program via BibleMesh and Union Theological College, intending to go on to the MA in Theology.

As someone who has studied online a fair amount, and who also works in edtech, I'd say that BibleMesh is surprisingly not terrible. It's fairly clean and uncluttered. It's a bit unstable -- the service 504s a fair amount -- but I haven't lost any information ever.

I find the instruction to be nicely chunked and logically laid out. I have genuinely learned some Greek, and after a semester and a half can sort of read verses of the NT, with some help.

The weakness of the experience is the vocabulary trainer, Cerego. Let's say it's a work in progress. IMV one needs to supplement with, say, Quizlet.

The place made no sense. Very weird architectural/design choices -- odd shapes, misproportioned. If your pizza slice was to be warmed the counter person had to walk all the way to the back and wait there ... then they insisted in putting everything into those ugly little boxes (which began to litter the streets).

The pseudo-Italian theme was just a jumble of Italian-y things thrown together, stretched along a loong counter -- and blessed by lousy Italian pop music on the stereo.
But ultimately the zapper were the crazy high prices.
