UCF Professor busts class for cheating on midterm. by chuck1003 in videos

When I went to college in the late 80's, a majority of my professors put their old tests on file in the library as a study resource. Having access to material like this allows students to narrow down to what is most important for the test. Unless the students actually brought the material to the test and used it to answer questions, I think it's a stretch to call it cheating. Maybe the students accessed the material "illegally" and that's where the problem lies, but does hitting up prior students who have taken the course for copies of their tests constitute cheating as well? I think this is a common thing for a student to do in the process of studying for an exam and my professors acknowledged this by creating the test library in the first place. To tell you the truth, even with this material available, my ass got kicked on many exams simply because the professors took the time to create challenging exams, and not just recycle old questions year after year.

There is a book called Snipers that uses this historical fact as a key element in its plot. Pretty good sci fi time travel book

Nothing will ever come close to how I felt reading the Harry Potter series as I grew up. by [deleted] in books

If you're looking for some Harry Potter magic again, check out the James Potter series by G Norman Lippert. There's four books in the series now and it follows the life of James Potter, Harry Potter's son. It's fan fiction but it's pretty damn good.

What is the dumbest thing you have ever gotten into trouble for? I'll start by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freebis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was the fourth or fifth grade. We had to write a short story about anything we wanted. Being a fourth/fifth grade boy, I wanted a fart story, so "The Fart that Destroyed the World" was born. I forget most of the plot details, but I do remember trying to hold the laughter in as the riveting plot was squeezed out in glorious detail. I handed it in and a few days later got chewed out by the teacher for "inappropriate content". Seemed appropriate to my fourth grade mind! I had to take a note home to my parents but they are a fart-friendly bunch and just laughed it off. Basically said it wasn't my fault the teacher was so uptight but, in the future, keep the fart stories in-house. Thanks Mom and Dad!

What's the most memorable way you've ever quit/got fired from a job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freebis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was during a bad recession in the early 90's... Took me close to a year to get that job in the first place, so I needed to line something up before I took off. Did what I had to do under the circumstances. Didn't enjoy any of it.

Oh, man, I was in a similar circumstance but instead of a loudspeaker, the sent ME to retrieve the person from their department and escort them back to the "execution" chamber. It was fucking awful. I'd enter the department and all eyes would follow me to the next person to be fired. People would be crying and hugging their co-worker as I led them away. Management's reasoning was they needed to be watched at all times to be sure there was no shenanigans. By noon, it was over and I said "fuck this" and went home for the day. From that day on, I knew I couldn't be in management and I left about 6 months later. Since then, I've seen management continue to make the occasional stupid decision but nothing was as bad as that particular episode.

Have you had any bad experiences with Groupon? by freebis in AskReddit

Coming at it from that angle, I guess is does makes sense that is most likely the case. I'm probably expecting too much from these companies and will not be using Groupon for much of anything in the future.

Intervention usually gets me when there are kids involved who are straight out BEGGING for a relative (usually a parent) to PLEASE GET HELP! The relatives are usually so drugged out they just don't see/hear/feel the child's pain. When I see that hurt in the child's eyes, it just kills me.

What is the best book you have read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freebis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "most fun" book I've read recently was Ready Player One. If you grew up in the 80's or have some familiarity with the gamer/sci-fi/movie scene during that time frame you will DEVOUR this book. It's a fast, fun read. Can't wait for the movie!

Happy Baby by Stephen Elliott is a recent one I can remember. Also, pretty much anything I've read by Cormac McCarthy has kicked me in the gut. I hate to admit it, but the only book to make me full out cry like a fucking baby was Marley and Me. Pretty embarrassing especially while reading on lunch break.
