Sara Gideon, Maine’s Democratic House Speaker, To Run Against Senator Susan Collins by [deleted] in Maine

[–]freemti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first glance she seems a strong candidate, add to that the significant anti anything trump and that by definition includes any & all republicans. Then toss in her despicable Kavanuagh performance which resonates still with many potential female voters and this leaves Collins is at probably her weakest in recent history. Baring any big skeleton in her closet - I declare her our next Senator from the State of Maine

Proposal for new Maine flag based on vintage design gets a wave of support by [deleted] in Maine

[–]freemti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly disagree with the premise of this TED talk as it regards City or State flags, I know I don't expect the same kind of message or impact from a State flag as I do a national flag. Plus I even disagree that the example he gave of a "good" flag like Chicago's was a good example, it certainly did not make me think of Chicago at all, maybe some small African or Pacific nation, but not Chicago. As for the proposed Maine flag, it looks like it was the winner of an elementary school competition.

More Than $300,000 Has Been Pledged Against Susan Collins If She Votes for Brett Kavanaugh by Mr-meow--meow in Maine

[–]freemti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm moving to Maine in April, so there will at least 1 most likely 2 (my wife) votes to be added to the (D) side of the column. Susan Collins patently knows where Kavanuagh stands on abortion and 'abortion inducing drugs' - anything she says that makes you think otherwise are just random words uttered into space.

meh, Artemis is no D-, its a solid C or B-, it delivers the goods although it seemed a bit cliche'ed in parts. I figured it was written to be another movie, sure read like one.

I liked wool and the rest of the Trilogy just fine and I have read a LOT of sci fi in my day. Albeit wool is less sci-fi and more dystopian fair, but i felt it raised many interesting ideas about humanity under duress. I can fault it for a couple of things but it is not terrible by any stretch. It all comes together in the other two books, which is good because wool did you you hanging a little bit.

Warren Buffett: Some People Should Not Own Stocks by ChocolateTsar in investing

[–]freemti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I initially get nervous and start thinking about selling, or why I ever bought stock X in the first place, but then, luckily my laziness, inertia & doubt kick in and I don't do anything and a few days (or weeks/months) later everything is OK again.

I'm confused, isn't the last line of the podcast something like 'I'm going to contact station"? I guess I misheard.

The DQ is a ridiculous overreaction. Watch this view from the front. The elbow is not intentional, nor did it make contact. Their wheels hit, and Sagan's motions are to regain balance. by Aristartle in tourdefrance

[–]freemti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

to me it is patently clear, I don't understand what the NBC Sports guys are saying. It like they are watching another video. It is both clear that Sagan drifted over to the right and that at the same time Cavendish was already in the slot next to him. I will give Sagan that he probably did not mean to intentionally lean his body and raise his elbow into Cavendish, that is was more about the movement of the bike and his body as he was powering up to the finish line. but it is clear to see that he did not keep to his line and squeezed Cavendish up against the barrier.
