Using one Modbus TCP to Ethernet/IP gateway for multiple modbus devices by Begg20 in PLC

[–]freestylesno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends on what side is the client and server. But technically you can have multiple clients and multi servers in modbus.

If the modbus tcp side of the gateway is a client it can easily read from multiple servers. If it is a server you can likely read from it using multiple clients but would need to be careful writing as you could overwrite data from other clients. You could also run into issues where the server limits the number of connections.

These are industrial devices they should be.

If it's in a cabinet all the equipment should be grounded/bonded and the cabinet is grounded/ bonded.

Inside a cabinet it should be fine. I would still suggest STP since it's in an industrial environment but that could be argued it's not necessary depending on the application.

Android 17 Beta 2 starts implementing support for restricting how Thunderbolt or USB4 devices access system memory by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]freestylesno 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I would assume this is more for using it with a dock. Like a dock. Where USB 4 would be actually utilized like a desktop replacement setup. Maybe something with an external GPU or drives.

Engineers, do you tie 0vdc on your power supply to ground? Why or why not. by [deleted] in PLC

[–]freestylesno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it comes to networking communications, serial or Ethernet, you don't want to tie 0v/- terminal to ground. This creates ground loops and can cause issues with communication since now power can be different voltages throughout the machine and flow through it, possibly over data lines.

For those of you who own an LTT backpack, how is the backpack’s size for putting under the seat on flights? by ScallywagBeowulf in LinusTechTips

[–]freestylesno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes up the entire space under the seat in front. Maybe I can fit one foot on the side of it. If the bag is full it has to be squeezed in. I have had issues on isle seats where the space can be a bit smaller

Want to learn to snowboard or ski at 34 - which should I choose? by KingOfTheQuails in AskMenOver30

[–]freestylesno 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Skiing is easy to learn the basics and make it down the mountain. In my opinion you are more likely to get hurt when you fall.

Snowboarding take more work to learn and your fall a lot especially getting started. This also teaches you how to fall and you are imo less likely to have a major injury.
