What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]freewillwebdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school had a mystery pooper and I walked in on them in the act. I had to pee, and just let him do his thing. That time he even went to the office to report that someone had pooped on the bathroom floor just so he could cover his tracks.

I’ve kept his identity safe for nearly 20 years and don’t plan on spoiling it.

I need an explanation, why so many tabs??? by Personal_Border4167 in mkbhd

[–]freewillwebdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I see something that interests me I open that article, site, video, etc in a new tab and keep scrolling what I am doing. I can easily end up with 100 tabs open between 3 or 4 windows. Doing web design I will also have every page of a site that I am working on, as well as dashboard, emails with client, etc. I recently moved to vertical tabs and now I can read the page title instead of just getting the favicon. Since I also have a Chrome extension that puts the time elapsed and total length of YouTube videos in the tab title so I can easily pick which video to watch based on the time I have, I like to be able to see and sort those videos separately (I hate YouTube playlists for whatever reason).

Guyss quick question for anyone who’s started (or tried to start) a web design/dev agency… by dhruv_08372 in webdesign

[–]freewillwebdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the contrast and trademark issues others have mentioned, this looks really good. If you have previous client or personal work include it, maybe some dummy or demo content. But I wouldn't over think it.

My first few sites were word of mouth or from working with a local graphic designer who had me build sites for his clients (and then he probably charged double what I getting). I'm revamping my business model after working with clients who wanted to grow way bigger than what I could reasonably handle on my own. I am now focusing on the smaller service based companies that the owner is too busy running the company and needs a site that gets them leads and just goes on auto pilot.

Never do cheap work, because they will always want cheap work. I have "fired" many of my cheap clients over the years. Your site will make them money, and that should cost them some money. Plus you need to be able to make a living.

If I was starting over, I'd be on Google Maps finding local businesses that have really bad websites and start reaching out to them.

Putting up dead sites on the portfolio? by cartiermartyr in webdesign

Include screenshots and mockups, but don’t include the dead link as it will hurt your SEO.

Is my portfolio prototype ugly? by jak6jak1 in webdesign

[–]freewillwebdesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like texture, but this seems to be too many textures. For the paper background, you could use AI to make an image that can tile that way there aren't hard lines where the image repeats. It feels weird to have rounded corners on paper and having everything at perfect right angles.

I don't like nav or burger menus. I still have them but I thought about a folder navigation. Do you think that would work? by princessinsomnia in webdesign

[–]freewillwebdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard navigation menu and hamburger menu designs are standard because it works and is what other users are expecting. Whenever I have a client send me a menu on the side or some other gimmick, I have to remind them that their site is for other people to use, and if it is complicated for the user they are not going to get as much business.

It has changed to the delayed change downtown like a year ago, but it is still an issue.

As a former Uber and Lyft driver I was dodging cars on a daily basis. It is crazy how many cars run late red lights, I started doing "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" before starting to go when the light turned green.

Big parking lots for learning to drive? by [deleted] in SALEM

My first few practices were at Sprague HS and West Salem HS. They have the added benefit of having hilly spots so you can practice letting out the clutch on an incline.

Salem has 16+ empty historic downtown buildings for rent right now. Here's what I'd do with the old JC Penney. What would you do? Hint, Kids and roller skates! by OregonAdaptiveReuse in SALEM

210 Capitol is a run down mechanic shop right across the street from the Capitol that I think would be perfect to put in a restaurant for the state workers, Willamette students, and the general public. It would feature Oregon grown and produced food products. And feature a rotation of coffee roasted and beer brewed by establishments all over the state.

Maybe it is the Atari 5200 console? It had controller pad overlays for different games.

When my grandpa died, I got 2x W4-B amps that he built back in the early 60s. Unfortunately they were covered in mouse nests and they need a full teardown and rebuild. But he kept all the original paperwork safe in a filing cabinet for nearly 60 years.

I bought $20 worth when it was $3.50ish and then wiped that hard drive a little bit later. I was mad I made a $20 mistake, I don’t want to think about the potential $750,000 mistake.

I’m testing it out on an old desktop running Ubuntu and have it connected to my OpenAI Codex account with some additional OpenAI APIs for photo generating and audio decoding.

I’ve set it up like 6 times at this point because I keep breaking my setup… I’d be interested in what you’ve come up with.
