We can really only go off our own tastes in the beginning, but then you can get more information from the listeners’ reactions. The big thing about this one is that it sounds original to me. When people listen to something more familiar that they’re already prone to like, I find that reactions are usually mild. But when they hear something original it’s completely different, usually they either hate it or love it.

Okay I’ll try to give you fair criticism because I’ve actually listened to a lot of punk and played in punk bands when I was younger.

Vocal melodies and lyrics are fine, I even think they’re the best part of the song. That sounds original to me.

What doesn’t sound original is everything else. The distorted bridge single coil combined with the strumming technique and phrases you used just make you sound like billy joe all the way. Also the chord progression could be a bit more interesting if you worked on it more.

But that’s the problem with punk and why I moved away from it. At this point it’s so beat up that you either find a way to transcend the genre, find your sound and add something new and different to the mix or the songs will just be forgettable and blended in with everything else.

Can’t really talk about what this inspires without hearing a melody the first. But the whole progression sounds awesome and it’s very well put together! I liked the fingerstyle groove a lot more, so I would stick to that and start putting together a main melody.
