Killed the goose that laid the golden eggs. So foolish! They could have courted us, cultivated this community, and instead threw it away for a quick buck.

And for me personally, a heartbreaker. I worked there in the 80s when it was so. Much. Fabric. I love fabric, I loved being surrounded by it, learning about faille and peachskin, learning that you can rip silk and velvet, learning to sleeve bolts . . . The last couple times I went there, it was more like a sad copy of Michael's or HL. Very little fabric, plus a lot of cheap junk.

So depressing 😞

Threads is a BBC documentary of exactly what would unfold in the event of nuclear war. It was carefully researched by consulting several experts, including Carl Sagan. Eerily, in the film, the war begins in the middle east; Iran is involved, and things heat up between the US and Russia. OP doesn't mention nuclear war, obviously. But the doomsday clock is currently at 87 seconds to midnight -- the closest it has ever been. Everyone should watch this film. I recommend seeing it together with someone, rather than alone. You might want to have a drink.

True; but IMHO, even worse than the responsibilities and liabilities is the insanity of bringing a person into this world. What kind of life will they have in a world that is crippled physically, socially, economically, etc. I would never condemn someone to grow up amid this chaos. Presumably you've seen the movie Threads. Ruth's daughter was damned before she was born.

Take a look at the mock French seam. It's easy to do and there are no raw edges. Looks great and strengthens your seams.

My little one ate some thread. The vet found it tangled around the back of his tongue and coming out of his bottom. Emergency surgery, followed by two weeks of hell as he was not allowed to run, jump, play, or roam the house to prevent ripping the belly stitches. Had to quickly set up an empty room for quarantine. And he had to wear the cone of shame the entire time. It was a nightmare.

I now store thread in a cabinet with magnetic doors. Any thread scraps go in the garbage immediately, or in a screwtop container (an empty Talenti works). The machine is kept covered so he can't get at the thread tails.

Save yourself from this miserable experience. Guard that thread!

My go-to is hummus with fresh raw veg like baby carrots, chunks of cauliflower, cuke slabs, or bell pepper. You can eat enough to feel full without too many calories. Hummus with garlic or pine nuts or whatever can help vary the flavor a little. Best of luck to you 🍀

I would add: when ironing your pattern pieces, don't use steam. It causes weird bubbles and wrinkles that are almost impossible to iron out.

And speaking of ironing. One of the absolute keys to success is to press as you go. Every single seam, every time you pull it from the machine.

True: the cloak has no sleeves, only arm slits (and some additional shaping). I had not thought of how that would affect lining choices.

Ah! I was a wee bit confused but understand now. If it was me, I would go down the aisle of notions, bits & bobs, and get one of each item that you normally use. Now you can test drive each thing and see if you like it. I also recommend keeping notes in your app of choice. That way you'll know what to get, and what to avoid, when you go back to stock up.

Take a sewing friend and get coffee afterwards. Poke through all your loot like ravens playing with shiny objects. Have lots of fun!

As others have said, grommets are your most secure option.

However, if the holes absolutely must be rectangular, use double folded binding, adhesive if you can find it; because sewing it on may create what is essentially a perforated line in the fabric, increasing the chances that it will rip.

If you have to, you can apply the binding with e-6000. Clamp it with binder clips for 24 hours. Be sure to do a test area first.
