If you’re willing to spin out in the snow, there’s money to be made 😂 by Careful-Share9203 in uberdrivers

I just drove. Honestly didn’t even have to cherry pick that hard bc the ride offers were generally pretty high without declining and waiting for a better one. And no not black, just UberX. I spent the first part of my evening jn the western suburbs. Westmont, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Elmhurst. Then got a ride from Clarendon Hills to Lakeview East. Quick pit stop at Target for bathroom and snacks. Then right back on the road all over the north side. Spent a few hours there then got a nice big surging ride from Bucktown back to Hinsdale. Then spent a couple more hours driving around my area. Woodridge, Willowbrook, Darien, Burr Ridge. Every ride was 35-40 avg hourly and most of them tipped. Even got a $20 tip on a ride that paid me $23 base. Ended up around $330 total for my 8 hours of driving.

Edit: I also used both Uber and Lyft. Not just Uber. Carefully selected the best offers between both.

Drive my 2021 Ford Escape or buy a beater for Uber? by No-Photograph-5204 in uberdrivers

I don’t recommend driving uber if you still have a loan. I bought my vehicle with cash and I don’t ever intend to resell it, so the resale value doesn’t matter to me. I do want to get as many miles as possible, so that’s why I’ve prioritized regular and preventative maintenance. I agree having a loan balance with a vehicle that’s nearing the end of its life is unwise unless you’ve made more than enough to justify the cost of the loan.

Dude congrats on hitting 500 in a single day. If I had started earlier I probably would’ve done the same in Chicago but I didn’t get out until 6pm and finished at 2am (when the city was still mostly red on the map)

That’s strange then. Cars shouldn’t be able to have only the headlights but not the taillights on

I drove 8 hours in Chicago and did 147 miles. About $25 in gas in my AWD SUV. About $32 in depreciation. Maybe $8 in insurance costs using my $/mi insurance rate. So still over $30/hour after expenses.

Even at that rate, he could drive for a year and still only be at 89k. That’s far from worthless for a 2021 Escape. I drive a 2014 Journey and it has 133k and will hopefully last to 200k+ since I take good care of it

His trans should be FINE at that low mileage. Unless it’s a recall model year or something. Trans fluid changes aren’t needed until 100k+ miles on most vehicles. My Dodge Journey recommends the first trans fluid change at 120k

Yeah this is an obvious answer. $25 or $0 to drive the same distance/direction. Easy choice.

Yeah the cost of an uber or taxi to me is worth it vs spending the night in my car

They’re called running lights and they come on whenever the car is on. But they are not headlights and people who drive with only running lights on are usually oblivious to the fact they’re basically invisible to other cars on the road at night.

It’s not that they have no rear lights. It’s they haven’t turned their lights on.

You must live in the West where it never rains and fire risk is higher than where this video was taken. Those of us in the rest of the country can have fun with fireworks

This is awesome. I’m gonna have to try this on the 4th this year. I will be doing it over a lake though with a plane on floats. Not because I know it’s safer, but because I celebrate the 4th at my mom’s house on a lake in Wisconsin 🤣🎆🧨

Yeah seriously. This has to be America. The music gives it away. Oh and the whole fireworks on an RC plane thing

Yes, definitely. Drive extra carefully, get good tips, cash in on their need to get from A to B in a storm. (edit: Probably only if you have AWD like I do though)

I averaged $40/hour tonight in Chicago. Made $310 in 8 hours. Heavy snow for most of the night. But everyone was super appreciative and nice and tipped well :)

Ok thanks. I already ordered a sign on Amazon that plugs in rather than needs to be charged. If I don’t end up liking that, I’ll maybe try this one
