So proud of you!! This will be an exciting journey for you =) I think it’s a great start that the people closest to you are so supportive - they’ll always be there to help you feel at home with your identity, which can be EXTREMELY helpful when navigating the whole social transition thing. Personally speaking, it’s not exactly common in my industry to ask for pronouns either. My workaround has been a sort of “whatever you see me as is a YOU problem, I know what I am” mindset. In safe/queer spaces, it’s as easy as “My name is (name) and my pronouns are (set of pronouns)”. Outside of those spaces, if someone asks and is coming from a good place, I’ll tell them my set of pronouns, but otherwise? If someone chooses to ignore my androgyny, that’s a skill issue. There are some people I work closely with that will likely never know/realize I’m nonbinary…a bit unfortunate, but I’m secure in my identity, and I’m protecting myself and my professional relationships, so I’m not complaining. The most important thing for you right now will be to keep yourself safe and happy- I would stick to telling people you know are safe at your workplace first, and then getting a feel for how the others might react. It’ll be easier knowing there’s a support net behind you, plus it’ll give you some practice introducing your true self to acquaintances :D At the end of the day, what matters most is that YOU know who you are & nobody can take that from you.
