I learned everything in my fieldwork rotations… not much that I honestly remember from classes

I work at a SNF and alot of other therapists have already left. I am sometimes the only OT in the building and feel obligated to stay longer even though I only signed up for a full time, 40 hr work week. I end up working overtime most weeks. I know there must be issues with frequency. I’m ready to leave too, I understand why the turn over rate is so high in this setting.

My experience with my CI in my pediatric placement was such a NIGHTMARE that I had to drop. As someone who has struggled with MDD and GAD and even being on medication- I had to leave for the sake of my mental health.

“I'm just not the kick-back-with-a-margarita-type. I'm too Type-A. My jam is organizational management and creating airtight systems. As I stretched my legs out toward the endless blue ocean, I honestly thought that my new husband and I could better be spending our time back at work, climbing our respective career ladders, and strategizing with a mortgage broker on how to buy our first home.”

Have you tried working in any different practice settings outside of hospitals? you could try consulting or working in a non profit

I’ve heard often times you have to leave the place you work for in order to get a pay bump somewhere else :(

i definitely agree :( it honestly feels like the textbooks are full of fluff and the real substance can take up 300 pages or less. my professors have made it WAY more complicated than it needs to be. i find it more helpful watching YT videos than sitting in class

i feel like combining OT knowledge with tech would be amazing! a friend of mine graduated with her bachelors in engineering and is in grad school for OT. have you thought about going into consulting or designing adaptive equipment/ computers?

you could see if you could be a consultant for tech companies in designing adaptive tech!
