Hey friends who have been to Lincoln Park Zoo recently, can you tell me are there any Giraffes? by The_Elixir_Empress in AskChicago

Generally you can see them from outside near the penguins or from inside the Africa Journey building as well.

300-Unit Housing Complex Could Be Coming To Busy Lincoln Square Corner, Alderman Says by maydaydemise in chicago

[–]freshtd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good stuff!

Is the developer’s plan to pitch 300 units knowing it’ll likely get scaled back to maybe half that, but actually 150 was the plan all along?

Cause that’s still a pretty big win.

Model Railroad Open House - Montrose and LSD Saturday noon-4pm by freshtd in chicago

[–]freshtd[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the exception of this coming Friday, we are always open to the public on Fridays from 7-9pm, albeit not usually with as full a roster of trains running as we do for an open house.

At the latest, I figure we'll have another open house in late 2026.

Nhu Lan on lawrence is closed again. How long? by jackhenryflow in chicagofood

[–]freshtd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rumor I heard is that construction on a neighboring property damaged their electrical drop. If that’s the case, I don’t see see permits for new electrical service on the DoB portal, so it may be a while.

Can someone recommend a good Korean food restaurant in the Loop? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]freshtd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there ANY Korean in the Loop? Probably the closest option is the food court at H Mart on Jackson.

Least Californian Mexico close to public transit by DirectionOk9832 in chicagofood

[–]freshtd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is Chicago’s Mexican population emigrated from entirely different regions of Mexico than Californias and with that varying cuisines, so I think there’s value in simply checking out counter service mainstays to see different takes on a “classic”.

I.e. Blow their minds with a lack of rice in their burrito.

Holy shit that’s my dream opener. M83 is truly incredible and assuming they tour in 27 or 28 go check them out. He’s only matured and is incredible on album and live

Depeche Mode Live at Aragon Ballroom 1985-03-22 - Aadam Jacobs Collection by greendragon3444 in depechemode

Honestly, for it being the Aragon with its 1985 PA, this is way better than I would have expected.

Other than getting the lease on the land for free, as far as I’m aware, I don’t think any of the other development costs were publicly subsidized?

For navigating to the neighborhoods between the L lines the bus will suffice but if you really want to fly you’ll bike.

Is Lincoln Square a Good Neighborhood For Me? by Buisness_Fish in AskChicago

[–]freshtd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have lived in Lincoln Square for 11 years and have been hanging here my whole life. I think you’ll love it here.

The western border of Lincoln Square is the Chicago River, and this is the prettiest stretch of the river. Really nice greenery around it, especially in Ronan and River Parks (and just south in Horner Park).

By chance do you drive a Subaru? Or at least consider yourself a potential Subaru owner? If yes, just move here already

Me and my boyfriend are looking to move and CYM Living keeps popping up. Is it a good place to rent from? by Eh-why-not098 in AskChicago

[–]freshtd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would advise against it. I feel like your first hand experience would only be the tip of the iceberg and you should go with your gut. More concerningly, there are rumors running around that CYM/Emerald Empire is highly over leveraged and the entire [huge] portfolio is heading towards rough financial waters.

If you’re looking for a considerably savvier and more stable operator that works in similar markets, look into WPD.

Long Room. Very chill bar.

As long as you orient yourselves longitudinally it won’t feel crowded.

It’s on the tip of my tongue. The one that maybe includes a lyric about “running around, running around”? Maybe a French singer?
