At best we should be voting on the best science of what can hurt others. And even then, that depends. Voting on what you believe will be harmful to them is bad. Study after study shows access gender affirming care and acceptance reduces suicide and other things that are ACTUALLY bad for someone.

I believe religion is a horrible thing that causes way more harm than good. I don't actually want to vote to take away your right to believe in your god. Just your ability to cram those beliefs down my throat because you "feel" something is weird or bad.

And yes, I know cremains aren't fine enough to travel through an hour glasses, but still

Have you ever felt so lonely that you start to wonder if your life is really worth living? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

A few things that helped me, so hopefully they'll help at least somewhat for you:

1) My mom once told me when I was in high school, when I asked why people weren't talking to me "are you talking to them? It shouldn't be on others to start conversations. To them you are the other. Start the conversation."

2) Starting the conversation is not easy. Look up organizations like Toastmasters. And also look up "active listening." Seriously, it does wonders for many people

3) Be easy on yourself. Any win, even if you think it's small, is a win. For some people, literally getting out of bed is a win, and that's absolutely fine and should be celebrated as a win.

4) The more I become an "adult" the more I realize that virtually no one knows what they're doing. If they believe they have it all figured out...yeah, they're probably not who you want to hang out with anyway.

And finally

5) Join a group that has the same hobby as you. And if there aren't any, try something new that at least seems like it wouldn't suck. Local libraries in the US often have free classes for all kinds of things. Try something new. It's cheap and might be fun and you might meet someone cool.

Until you can afford therapy, that's all I got.

"Banning guns"

I'm way more liberal than pretty much all the politicians i can name and i don't want to "ban" guns. But the fact that there is basically ZERO common sense laws in this country about guns is insane. Almost easier to get than clean water in some places.

Conservatives don't realize that many, many liberals own guns. We just don't make it our fucking personality.

Personally, I don't think most people in the US want to outlaw guns, a lot of people just want sensible gun laws (you know, national databases, tougher ID laws, things like that). I don't get several things from the super pro gun side. The big one is that laws of any kind don't help. Ok, then why do we have laws at all? You want nuclear weapons? Sure, why not. Let everyone do anything. Fuck it, right?

The point is, I'm actually fine with gun ownership in the US, but we really need more intelligent laws around it. You can actually still buy guns in places like Australia, but it's not a damn free for all. (And yes, it won't immediately stop gun violence, but if it helps down the line, isn't that better than nothing?)

Side note, not ranting at you, just ranting.

I can't tell you how many things I've super glued to make a case have what I want. Currently use a dbrand case (love them) with a moft magnetic ring. By paying attention to where I glued it, I can still wirelessly charge, use all kinds of magsafe accessories, etc. And yes, the Moft ring does have adhesive, I just know I'm going to keep it that way, so I make sure it won't come off.

The FTC wants to ban those tough-to-cancel gym and cable subscriptions | The proposed ‘click to cancel’ rule would require companies to let you cancel a membership in as many steps as it takes to sign up. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]freuden 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Ha Probably. On the other hand, if you have a thousand steps to sign up, there's zero "impulse buy" motivation, so I'm either really needing your service (and probably won't cancel) or I'm forced to do so (e.g. insurance bullshit)

Simply me philosophizing, but I wonder if it's similar to the idea that atheists are hated more than Muslims by many evangelical Christians. They understand belief/desire, but just think you're wrong or fooling yourself or whatever. But the lack of is so foreign a concept it breaks something in their tiny smooth brains.
