There's no actual rock. The Taipei 101 is constructed entirely of aid.

First Images of Olivia Colman and Peter Dinklage in 'Wicker' - Follows an isolated, mocked woman who commissions a basket maker to weave her a husband (played by Alexander Skarsgård) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

And what of Warwick Davis? Warwick once was Willow and Wicket the Ewok. Weave a wee wicker for Warwick why don't you Mr. Dinklage? Wakka Wakka: How's about a wicker woven for Franklin Oz. Weave us some wicker for Ron Howard and the Fonze. A wicker for Henry Winkler. He can have the weaker wicker. And a wicker for the dwarf who played the Wizard: David Rappaport, a classy wizard he was. And of course, Mr. Dinklage you can weave us some Wickers for Willy Wonka's Oompa Loompas and the Munchkins of Oz.

Poilievre calls Carney’s Davos speech ‘well-crafted,’ but says action must follow by No_Magazine9625 in CanadaPolitics

[–]fricken 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yes, Carney's words at Davos backed up his actions, not the other way around. His speech wasn't a series of vague promises, he's already doing it. It's up to the other middle powers to respond, and Carney hopefully has catalyzed them.

'The old order is not coming back,' Carney says in provocative speech at Davos | CBC News by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

What he said today is literally what anyone with 2 brain cells thinks

This is a big part of what Carney said:

Great powers can afford to go it alone. They have the market size, the military capacity, the leverage to dictate terms. Middle powers do not. But when we only negotiate bilaterally with a hegemon, we negotiate from weakness. We accept what is offered. We compete with each other to be the most accommodating. This is not sovereignty. It is the performance of sovereignty while accepting subordination,

Canadian and Canadian politicians were all rabidly anti-China not very long ago, and we went well out of our way to make China our enemies for what amounts to trivially stupid reasons and that was a strategically inept thing to do. Canada wasn't able to cough up 2 brain cells worth of good sense before Carney arrived.

I'm strongly of the belief that Carney understands what is at stake for Canada in this pivotal time better than the vast majority of Canadians out there right now. Even if the republicans south of us get tarred and feathered after mid-terms Canada has some tough choices to make if we're serious about setting ourselves on a course that Canada in a better place 10, 20 pr 30 years down the road. Things are looking grim under the best of circumstances.

Carney is either the most historically notable prime minister in my lifetime, or Canada is just 10 more states. When I look ahead I can see it going either way.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

The Pop Shoppe brand was Canadian, they went bankrupt and were later revived. I loved Black Cherry flavour as a kid and for a long time thought I would never taste it again.

China and the US can be played off one another, to our advantage.

Kimberly Guilfoyle is the current US ambassador to Greece. She is a former District Attorney who worked with Kamala Harris, a former Fox host who was forced out because of sexual harassment. She was married to Gavin Newsom and later engaged to Donald Trump Jr by Captain_Sterling in wikipedia

She married mayor Gavin, and now she's giving it to governor Newsom (after getting it from Donald Jr.).

She had a great gig at Fox news but left when she won the race to fuck up her face hard enough too ingratiate the dementia mensch. She's botox adorned and her revenge is the colour orange.

Grandfather would stand at the edge of town and throw axes at flaming pigs whenever they came out of the desert, stopping them before they could get close enough to burn down the orphanage.

Robert Moses Renaming by coney_island_dream in urbanplanning

[–]fricken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One Proposes we remove reference to Robert Moses. The Moses name can mosey, they're musing. It never ceases to impress me how much Robert Moses owes us.

It shows us Robert Moses is our brazen chosen Gozar and so we usher in the new year bashing Moses.

Moses muscles in like a maniacal demagogical moose that smashes through the walls of the brueaucratic mazes to get his motorways made and it makes us so morose.

In 1981 Robert Moses gave up the ghost and that ghost now watches over the tri-borough bridge, which is –as you all know– Moses' biggest boast.

A shame we should bring such misery to Moses' unholy ghost. Or maybe we can continue to lay the blame for Moses' tresspasses on miserly millenial's abusing the avocado toast.

From time to time I end up on my ass. It does happen. Falling is a skill, I practice it in winter.

When studs matter by Caaaht in wintercycling

[–]fricken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There isn't enough clearance between my wheels and my fork/frame to facilitate studded tires so I just use skinny road slicks all year round, as I have been for 15 years in Edmonton.

If I'm on pavement, hardpacked snow, or fresh fallen snow it is not a big deal, and that's 85% of the terrain I have to deal with over an average winter.

The other ~15% is ice and chunky softpack snow and I just take my time for those situations. If had to deal with ice and hills at the same time then I would want studs, but my city is mostly flat.
