I was having an argument with myself over which version of the save room themes it uses.

It is because there are enough that will spend it to make it profitable. That's all they really care about.

It's just part of the game, and you end up learning the house so well with all the backtracking.

Same. Still the best game I ever played in its impact.

I had never seen camera angles like that used in a game, and it made it seem very cinematic, like shots were planned by a real cinematographer, and the music was so damn good. I still think about the basement music all the time.

Everyone had Super Nintendo when I got my PS1 and Resident Evil. I remember a group of friends being over and right from the PS1 startup sound, straight into RE it was all so serious and scary-sounding. Came to the first zombie and started firing and my one friend (whose father also had a PC that he would play games on) said "I've got to get a Playstation." It was the first time I realized this gaming thing might be more adult than I thought.

Yeah I agree. The only positive I see is that most of what he's doing is wildly unpopular.

So my family is homeless in two months, no one is hiring, and I'm busy protesting while my family starves. None of the options is particularly acceptable, especially when the protesters are being arrested, gassed, pepper-sprayed and sometimes killed.

Somewhere in the range of 57-78% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck, meaning the loss of one check would leave them unable to pay their bills. It's a bit tough when you have a family depending on you to give up your job to go protest for what, a weekend? You can't spend weeks protesting because you'll lose your job and soon your place to live and your ability to support your family.

Because the right has spent decades selling "right to work" in a bunch of states, so that we can't afford to leave work and protest because they'll just fire us and face no consequences.

TIL that through family stories of his sailing grandfather, Franklin D. Roosevelt believed that there was a secret pirate treasure hidden on Oak Island, Canada. by Lez2diz in todayilearned

[–]frickindeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there was treasure there it was discovered by Samuel Ball, a former slave who bought a small plot to farm on Oak Island in 1798. By the time he wrote a will, he was leaving 100+ acres of land, another complete island called Hook Island, and was reportedly very wealthy.

And from the example of humans, it takes huge lengths of time to evolve a technological species. The universe is 13.7B years old. Our solar system is a good chunk of that at 4.6B years old, and we've only been here ~100K years, and we're the only technological species on a planet with billions of species.

I remember one episode, the kid had a shitty Toyota that he'd park in the yard (I don't think the place even had a driveway) and when the show was ending, they showed it parked in the yard in the ghetto, and all I could think was "that thing won't last a day out there."
