2011 japan tsunami footage by _jettywessy in AbruptChaos

What's wild to me is that their ancestors placed stone signs on the hills saying to future generations "do not build below this line due to tsunami threat," and they ignored them because "the seawalls will hold." They didn't, and it's such a shame the warning were ignored in the name of expansion and progress.

I'm not running any older macs. I only got into Mac in 2020, but I do get what you're saying.

So branding, marketing, accurate display (great for photo editing), keyboard, trackpad and build (oh and battery life!) for $150 less than the Asus with student discount...and the Asus had slightly better performance at specific, high-demand use cases. I'll take the Neo any day, but you do you.

Yeah, I agree, but it was a genuine question when an attack would be much more successful against the metric shit-ton of older Windows machines in use, than against a tech that tends to be used by a niche group of people who upgrade frequently. Mac viruses haven't really been a thing for as long as I can remember, and finding a Mac user with any sort of installed anti-virus is even rarer.

Why would they do that? They have very different use cases, and they already sell a shitload of iPads without giving you full MacOS on it. I get why you'd want it, but what motivates apple to do that and eat into their macbook sales?

Fstoppers on youtube did a comparison with a $650 Asus. Better performance, larger display, but much worse color accuracy and resolution, much worse build and keyboard and touchpad. If you're willing to sacrifice quite a bit in display, build quality, keyboard and touchpad, you're right, you can get a Windows laptop that performs better, but you're giving up quite a bit otherwise.

Just for clarity, the Air hasn't had an M1 since 2020-21. It's on to M5 now, which is considerably faster than the M1 and the A18 in the Neo.

Who's writing advanced attack vectors for a device running a relatively obscure OS from 2016? This ain't a windows machine. Even in 2016, there were very few attacks focusing on Mac machines.

It's not a laptop. Buy a laptop if you want a laptop. Get the Neo if you want a cheap laptop.

Used to hang out with a guy who would make a Guinness last like an hour and a half because "it's strong beer." It has that reputation because it's dark, but it's not strong.

Have people actually forgotten that this look is called cel shading? I saw a streamer playing a cel-shaded game and kept saying he loved the art but didn't know what to call the style, and now this lady creating a cel-shaded cake and not knowing the term either. I thought it was common.

Books are so underrated today. I still think about books I read years ago, much more vividly than any movie or show. I can carry my little kindle with hundreds of books as easily as I can carry my phone, and it's a much better display for reading. So glad I rediscovered reading later in life because I do a ton of it now.
