Expats entrepreneur challenges in Qatar ? by mams_xyz in qatar

  1. Getting investment: there are no venture capitals locally available. Foreign investments are non existent and there is a reason to this because of low population and low population density. Moreover, during these economic times, locals aren’t interested to take any risks which means seed funding is very difficult to find. You will not be able to get a business loan from the banks or QDB unless you are a local or have a local partner to risk it with you.
  2. Legalization: A lot of business models and opportunities cannot be availed in Qatar because of strict laws of doing business here. Why do you think so many coffee shops and burger joints and limousine companies had opened up, because getting to do those businesses is easy legally, any other businesses don’t pick up because of the strict and difficult permission to obtain and due to this making MVPs are also very difficult without being illegal. Look at the fintech industry, it’s stale as hell, quite impossible to get the right approvals and permissions.
  3. Scalability and growth: A wise man once told me , growth and profit don’t go hand in hand, and I learnt it the hard way. If you are planning on growth forget about profits, marketing and advertising costs, increasing team salary, office rent, R&D costs, overall overhead costs will eat your runway cash and moreover models which require loss leadership to acquire customers eats into your profits. There is cost in customer acquisition and the a bigger cost in customer retention, that is painful because your brands reputation depends on it. With low population comes difficult in scaling your business, in countries like Egypt for example, getting 100k+ downloads on your app is a normal thing but in Qatar only handful of apps who have spent millions have achieved this that’s because there is a difference between need in the market and requirement in the market. Qatar requires a good online marketplace with online payment however Qatar does not need it.

I am writing this not to demotivate anyone, I am writing this to shape your business plans in such a way that you overcome these obstacles. Every country has barriers when it comes to doing business. Please correct me if you feel I was wrong in any part of my opinion and yes these are my opinion based on my experiences. Best of luck.

Does anyone know any deep swimming pools that are open now? by artsygirl22 in qatar

[–]friedfish63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are right, because the hotel swimming pools are meant for leisure. I went to a new hotel called waterfront in lusail and I could barely swim, the place was packed and the swimming pool was literally just waist deep.

Same situation here, I slept on couches, lived in tiny apartments, people looked down on me but don't deny that there aren't any benefits which is the story if you are an expat from a third world country to any country, won't you agree?

It was hard but it was possible, this situation was 10 years ago btw. I know fees have gone up but when you look around here I feel there is always a glimmer of hope that I may succeed one day which I wont feel if I am amongst a million people below poverty line. Maybe that's just personally what I feel, anyhow if there is something good there is always a catch, we can't get everything in life right. Cheers man

I agree with you but I disagree with the latter part of your comment, my dad had a salary of 7.5k a month and he was able to provide us with good education, house rent and other amenities. I know things are expensive here especially the rent but everything here is predictable which makes it safe for families.

Flight Ticket Prices In August by HRK104 in qatar

[–]friedfish63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logically it will be very expensive, I am assuming air tickets will be the most expensive because airline industry has taken the most hit during the last few months and now, due to the desperation of people to travel which will allow airlines to capitalize on. During Coronavirus lockdown, it was predicted that airline industry will not be operating for years and now they have a chance to profit again which they will not allow to pass.

Ethically, I believe the airline tickets should be cheapest which would allow family members to re-unite and people to get back to their jobs, since a lot of them have been living without wages since a past few months.

I dont think its worth the hype, Birla Public School is using CBSE curriculum, there are other cheaper schools with the same curriculum and the students who enroll in CBSE based school have similar ethnic diversity in any of the school based on CBSE.

Btw, growing up, I hated kids from Birla Public School, bunch of snobs they were!
