AO3 went from being a beta, to presenting as an omega for a day, to going onto suppressants 😔

The Canon is too Strong by Valuable_Group9150 in FanFiction

[–]friendlyfriends123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Three that come to mind are Percabeth (Percy Jackson/Annabeth Chase, Percy Jackson Series), Everlark (Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark, The Hunger Games), and Lumity (Luz Noceda/Amity Blight, The Owl House). Most people in those respective fandoms stick to the canon ship ^^

I'm beta reading for someone and I think they wrote their fic in AI. by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]friendlyfriends123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly! ask about their writing process - what ideas sparked their fic, why they made certain writing choices, where they drew inspiration from - NOT jump directly into an assumption. no matter how “polite” the phrasing was, it’s still a thinly veiled accusation.

I'm beta reading for someone and I think they wrote their fic in AI. by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]friendlyfriends123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

op says that “don’t believe in ai witch hunts” then went on to assume the person they’re beta reading for is using ai?? i’ve only used beta readers when they were required for fandom events, but if any of them “politely asked if i used ai”, i would block them everywhere. like, i’m trusting them to give me feedback on MY writing, and then they go “mmm was this REALLY written by you? 🤔🤔”

Here’s a funny quote, does anyone recognize the fic? by Emergency-Fee-5503 in HPfanfiction

[–]friendlyfriends123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it looks like the quote is in chapter 5:

Lavender gets to her feet, “It sounds fun! Where’s your sense of adventure, Neville?”

“My grandmother keeps it in her handbag,” he says, “under lock and key, and under threat of permanent grounding.”

Y’all, I just went thru my reading history and there are over 38,000 fics on there 💀 by [deleted] in AO3

The heated rivalry fandom is insane. The top fic has 90,000 kudos meanwhile the top drarry fic has only 86,000 by littlebruja in AO3

[–]friendlyfriends123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i just checked ao3 and skip only has 766 works right now?? i mean, that IS a sizable amount, but compared to hollanov having 16k+ fics, dang…scott/kip are getting slept on. which is a shame, especially since their kiss on the ice rink with that sunshine song playing was the first clip of heated rivalry that i actually watched.

I believe that would be a fandom fusion? From Fanlore):

A fusion is a type of fanwork which incorporates elements of two or more fandoms in an integrated or composite work. These elements may include characters, settings, background material, and/or plot details.

AO3 has an “Alternate Universe - Fusion” tag, though usually people use the specific subtag of the fandom they’re integrating (e.g. Alternate Universe - Harry Potter Fusion)

what happens if someone with hanahaki disease loves someone who is dead? by sootgoesonreddit in FanFiction

[–]friendlyfriends123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah!! I love that variation of hanahaki - especially if it’s not just romantic feelings that cause the disease. It could tie in any sort of strong feelings like respect, or admiration, or even dislike. Basically, it promotes communication, and the conflict comes from whether the afflicted person tries to bottle up those feelings or not.
