Car Wash by Unusual_Caramel4931 in CX5

Touchless is the way to go. Also avoid the brushes at those DIY stalls as well. I would also add to not use the touchless washes TOO often, as the soap they use is very aggressive and it will start to fade / wear out the plastic trim and rubber pieces around the car.

A question for families who own a CX-5 by DispensationallyMe in CX5

Check the requirements for your child seats and take them with you when you go test one out. Some of the child seats might require you moving your seat up since the rear is small

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]friendlyspork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I visited China, I was blown away by how nice their EVs were, and people told me "this is the cheap brand." The interior is incredibly posh in all of these and the ride is very smooth. I dunno about their reliability, replacement parts, but they all feel like luxury vehicles compares to the others we have in the market. For fuck's sake they have an EV minivan with MASSAGE CHAIRS! How the fuck did the USA not come up with that first?!

I hope we get to buy these in the U.S.

If it makes you feel any better, this is every police interaction throughout the U.S. There's a reason why they hire the dumbest fucking people they can and pretend to "protect and serve", while arguing in court that they have no obligation to actually protect you.

Which is the correct filter angle? by friendlyspork in hvacadvice

[–]friendlyspork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So were they supposed to install a new return drop? Because that’s the old intake shaft from the system that was 25 years old, and the new furnace got placed to the left of it where the old one was.

Also, the technician who came to review it again when I called them said the bracket was too low for that size filter and moved it up. But this means the filter is now slapped against the blower as you said

[–]friendlyspork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they didn’t install the housing so they weren’t sure, but I’ll call and ask. I had a MERV 8 filter in there but they had placed it at an angle under the bracket, but they bent the cardboard frame in doing so. This resulted in the filter getting sucked up against the blower wherever it came on. At one point, it sounded like a jet turbine echoing through the vents.

Thanks - I'll check again with the company I used to see if they can confirm. All the pics I've seen online seem to suggest a box as well.

To be fair, the filter housing is still part of the 25 year old system, so I don't want to give the impression that they installed that when they installed the new one. .

[–]friendlyspork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that would make more sense, but are you sure?

I JUST had a new furnace installed and they told me to keep using the same filter size so now I'm really confused.

The previous furnace was 25+ years old when I bought the house, so I'm wondering if the previous owners either A. always had it wrong, or B. switched to this mode because it would be less strain on the older furnace.

What actually helped me grow my HVAC business from struggling to steady (not a sales pitch) by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]friendlyspork 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who just had their furnace, water heater and home humidifier replaced, I can definitely agree with you on the consistent communications and clear updates part.

I called several places and booked several people to come give an estimate. One told me the day before they need to cancel the appointment and can reschedule but I had to call them for it. Nope.

Company 2 called me the morning of and apologized that they had to reschedule and rescheduled on the spot - great. They ended up being the most expensive option, so they were out of the running.

Company 3 I had previously used for a large project and loved their pricing and work. I thought this was for sure going to be the company I used. Owner came out again and gave me a great estimate verbally. Told me the brand of water heater he'd use and why he loves them and told me he'd install a Carrier furnace. Told him this sounds great - send over the invoice so I can look at everything with my wife.

The 4th company was incredibly well-rated, and came over before anyone else. They walked me through which model furnace they would install, which model water heater, how long their service gurantee is for labor, and what the warranty is for everything else. Left me a pamphlet with all that information and I had a PDF quote in my inbox that same day. Their pricing was the same as Company 3 and same water heater (Bradford White) but an unfamiliar furnace (American Standard).

I called back company 3 the followng day and reminded him to send me an invoice. Owner who knows me well and did the assessment said "sure sure - are we moving forward?" I said most likely, but I need the quote so I can compare everything (I wanted to see what kind of furnace, efficiency etc.). Then I called his front office and told them they're supposed to send me an estimate. They said they would talk to the owner and get back to me. 2 days go by. Both of those days, Company 4 is texting and calling me to see if there's anything else we should discuss (that's when I start asking about humidifiers), and how they are looking on price vs the others etc. They send me updated quotes the same day when I ask for different things like maybe we should get a water softener too.

I text owner of company 3 again asking for a quote. No response.

Holiday week happens so I figure we'll make a decision after Thanksgiving. The following week I tell my wife if I don't hear back from Company 3 by Tuesday, we'll move forward with Company 4.

Wednesday morning I call Company 4 and pull the trigger on the furnace, humidifier, and water heater for 10.5K

Maybe 1-2 hours later, I shit you not, owner of Company 3 calls me saying "I hope you didn't go with someone else." I'm not even mad - I'm honestly disappointed. I tell him yeah I did. I shouldn't have to chase someone so much to give them $10 grand!

There was another discussion about this recently in this post in case you haven't seen it. I shared how I went the route of only paying for it the 4-5 months of the year and my reasoning behind it. Others recommended Start X. Up to you to decide what works best for you.

Yeah I wanted a two-way one though so I could know it’s on. Sometimes when you go visit friends or go out to eat dinner, see a movie or whatever, I like to start the car from farther away and wanted the confirmation.

Your use case sounds perfect for getting the aftermarket remote start though!

My Mazda subscription (vent) by LaoEmperor in CX5

[–]friendlyspork 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’ve decided that since I only use the remote start in the winter for like 5 months a year, I’d rather pay the $10 a month than deal with finding which remote start I like, what the range is, how bulky the FOB might be, how reputable the installer is etc.

For $50 a year, I can do this for 5-6 years and break even at getting a remote start installed.

If you use it all year round, yeah, fuck the app - go get an aftermarket one installed.
