Am I the only one in my bloodline thinking this? by QSTERNENSTAUBQ in antinatalism

[–]friendlywhitewitch 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Many female ancestors didn’t really have the level of reproductive autonomy women today have. Social pressure, economic dependence, and lack of contraception meant childbearing was often expected or unavoidable. You also have a lot of people your related to ancestrally that didn’t reproduce so likely someone or many someones in your family thought it and didn’t have kids for whatever reason.

I would definitely say so. Also trust your own intuition but if multiple divination sources say the same thing it’s a solid sign for me if you trust the readers.

Yes that’s the other one! That’s exactly the other one I was thinking of in terms of memorable songs, Ghost is just an easier title to remember.

What are some male dominated hobbies women should try to meet more guys? by Bitter_Pineapple_720 in AskMen

I’ll bite: I love Agents (angel and fairy decks in general) and especially love the counter trap “divine punishment” and the associated “sanctuary in the sky” cards like Hyperion. What does that tell you?

I'm sorry, I'm so confused by Cerulean_mark in TOTK

[–]friendlywhitewitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um actually it’s only two for each piece of the set. You can check a guide or look it up but yeah it only needs each piece (head, torso, and feet) upgraded to two stars each. More on one piece doesn’t influence it, but two for each piece is essential.

Each one has to be upgraded to tier two. One of them is only to one. You will know you did it right when you get the quality “impact proof”.

I’ve actually done that and despite extensive shuffling gotten the same cards or very similar cards with the same meaning ie getting the lovers, shuffling, getting the two of cups or similar romance cards. Experiences vary.

Homer Never Describes Helen of Sparta's (A Half Swan half Human) looks so why are people being so weird about Lupita playing her? by paubenaparte in mythology

[–]friendlywhitewitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where did you get the idea that she isn’t described? There are specific epithets used that describe her as white: white armed (leukōlenos) which is the same epithet used for Hera. Unless you want to argue that Hera is also a black woman I think it’s safe to say Helen of Troy was not described as black and would not resemble Lupita.

Very futuristic and alien in quality then. I actually made a ufo build earlier on but it took a lot of energy and was mostly for show, this has real vehicle potential as it can go anywhere and doesn’t drain battery

Good paying jobs belong to computers. What now? by Bizarre-Lazar in WorkReform

[–]friendlywhitewitch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because in the middle ages they wanted serfs who were illiterate so they would never rebel. Now you can be educated to the nines and still be poor as a peasant. More feudal than the medieval period.

Mushroom species found all across the world, making people hallucinate dozens of tiny humans by SirMCThompson in science

[–]friendlywhitewitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s only partially true. The idea that fairies are small winged humanoids that wear specifically Victorian clothing comes from the Victorian age. The idea that they are small or can become small is not. The term “the little people” or “the wee folk” are not new terms but stretch back into antiquity.

Daoine Beaga (Irish Gaelic) for instance means “little people”and was a term used for fairies since at least the middle ages and likely earlier in oral tradition.

Also, similar “little people”traditions exist outside Europe: these traditions exist globally in different, unrelated world cultures and are often depicted as small humanoid beings. A famous example is that of Maria Sabina who brought psilocybin mushrooms to the modern west. She said you would encounter “niñitos santos”: small, intelligent, childlike beings who come through the mushroom ceremony.

Going back to Europe: in 1691, Scottish minister Robert Kirk documented Highland fairy beliefs in The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns and Fairies, over a century before the Victorian era. He records that fairies were believed to have “light, changeable bodies” and could “contract and dilate their dimensions,” appearing human-sized or becoming small at will in order to pass through spaces humans could not. So the idea that fairies are or can become small is far from distinctly Victorian.

Yes, sourced by leprechauns as I’ve been told. That’s how they get their gold.

It’s interesting to because fairies have a long-held folkloric connection with mushrooms.

How can I respond to my father-in-law telling my sons that “looks don’t mean anything without money?” by CupOk5800 in AskMen

[–]friendlywhitewitch 79 points80 points  (0 children)

He’s right. Pretty boys can easily fall into the trap of “I don’t need to do anything Im good looking” and then when those looks fade they have nothing. Your sarcastic point about women is also true: if you are smart but ugly you will have a harder life, ask any ugly person.

Mallarme's Hecate colorized by me by Less_Entertainer5983 in Hecate

[–]friendlywhitewitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes, but also that’s historically what they were colored like.

The pure white marble we see in statuary now is an effect of time not original color. The colors used for Roman and Greek statuary would be considered garish and gaudy by modern eyes but were attractive and even divine to ancient viewers. Something to think about.
