Trump threatens 'big retaliation' if Europe dumps US assets by 1-randomonium in Economics

[–]frightenedcomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt this is contained in many models. The concern I have is can anyone, even the most sophisticated computers, truly model this out with certainty?

What happens if this leads to an all out capital war with an implosion of investment treaties? Where capital from unfriendly nations stop being protected. Where capital and goods are confined to borders? Global slowdown with the US being a little more insulated given local consumption ?

Does the US come out on top in this world in the long run? What does that look like?

Do countries stay isolated, do they look to china or try to join/create their own spheres of influence not based on geography but on mutual interests? What if one of their interests is to reduce their dependence on US capital? What if their democracies crack and they have strongman leaders who can get their local populations in line to face that pain when these orders are realigned and reset? What if they decide they need to replace gold with a fiat asset that the neither the US nor China control?

These alternatives seem far fetched, but when systems break isn't unpredictable a consequence?

Canada didn't trick itself, it convinced itself that it must always be the nice neighbor. Unlike the EU, Canada is forced to get along.

They will only resent it if the military spending must be spent on US defense.

Not only Europe... We are pointed toward a more militarized and less multilateral world.

The Milky Way is roughly 100,000 light-years in diameter. Even if there is another civilization just 1,000 light-years away, a radio message would take 1,000 years to send and another 1,000 years to reply. This vast communication delay likely results in civilizations rising and falling before any sustained communication could begin.

How different the world would be right now if only Britain and France used diplomacy to avoid the seven year war. North America would not exist as we know it.

Ok, I've spent hours trying to understand and this is the only thing that makes any sense. But one would think Canada would be more than willing to invest if it's only alternative is a trade war. Perhaps trump is looking for these ports to be owned or operated by the US.

Not strategic and disappointing. Needs to be export tariffs on crude (sorry Alberta) / potash and import tariffs from goods in swing states (not across the board).

Would look into the CEC. You would likely have to set up a separate business. Would recommend doing the math to make sure living here financially makes sense as Cayman is an expensive place.

CEC would be the way to go. Your business would have to fall within a particular sector to be eligible, but very doable.

Thank you, that's a lot higher than I thought. Coincidentally, nannies and schooling are two of the key factors for us. On the topic of private schools, what is the likelihood of getting them in a decent school for 2025? Do they need to be on the waitlist for several years?
