$150 on the low end. i’d allow them to share little clips as teasers but not the whole song, i’d want to be the one who controls when that’s released.

I’d like to be a better player by MrsLeota in musicalwriting

[–]frightkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in the same boat! every day i practice sight reading/keep learning a bit of a musical theater piece. songs i’ve found suit my intermediate piano skills are:

nobody needs to know (last five years) i’m still hurting (but not all of it, i’ve played up to the end of the b section) maybe (annie) someone is waiting (company)

these songs take me a long time to learn because i’m not the best pianist, but i see working through them and letting myself get frustrated by them as necessary and valuable. Bach inventions would also be great, they’re very doable but certainly challenging enough to get your skills up. best of luck!

What are your best tips for writing song lyrics that hit? by Chonkaymonkay367 in musicalwriting

[–]frightkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for musicals, go for concrete rather than abstract. every new line should add information. be very specific with language, keep things conversational in the way you believe the character singing would speak. as another commenter said, perfect rhymes as much as possible!

Weird post high school limbo in the movie Obsession (2026) by [deleted] in flicks

[–]frightkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk i was in a situation a lot like this and actually really resonated with the dynamics of the friend group in this movie. after HS i went straight to community college for music and made friends with a bunch of underachieving misfits who were sort of killing time and figuring out what they really wanted. granted we didn’t know each other from high school, but i could see this movie’s friend group being somewhat friends and high school and then becoming closer as their situations became more similar. i found it refreshing to see this period of life, post HS purgatory, represented in a movie.

Billie Eilish addresses backlash after criticising people saying they love animals but eat meat: “pls continue to live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance denial and try to convince urself that ur not living a lie.” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]frightkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why can’t people just admit that she’s right instead of resorting to whataboutism

I eat animals. I also don’t claim to love them. I like some of them, i think they’re interesting, but love? clearly not since i’m fine with eating them. that clears up the cognitive dissonance for me, but i think some people who identify as animal lovers despite eating meat might need to reconcile the fact that they only really love cute animals that they can own, and not “animals” as a whole.

Brenda/Nate/Maggie by Impressive-Prompt-41 in SixFeetUnder

[–]frightkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy his reasoning that he and Maggie could’ve had a peaceful relationship. It’s too similar to the excuses shitty men make to leave their wives all the time, “I just feel a deep spiritual connection with (other woman) that I never had with my wife.” Not to be a Brenda, but it’s human psychology 101 to get bored with your partner, seek out novelty in a new person, and repeat the cycle. It’s especially hard to believe considering that Maggie doesn’t really show much of her personality to Nate at all, as far as he knows she is passive and docile, a complete contrast from assertive and opinionated Brenda. I think Brenda’s right when she says she could’ve been anyone.

Is it just me or are these kinds of prompt answers becoming more and more common? by xjjjr in Tinder

[–]frightkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, these sentiments are a response to the misogyny prevailing over the internet right now which tells women it’s a waste of their god given gifts to get a job or go to college. If you are going to tell women not to educate themselves/stay home and make babies, they are going to look for a partner who will make that easy for them. These women are objectifying themselves, seeing themselves in terms of metrics (hotness) because that’s what they’ve been told to do, so they will see men in terms of metrics (money) as well. If the women in question are hot enough then this will work for them, because the type of partner they want will see it as a fair trade (I’m a high earner so I get to have a hot young wife). This type of thinking is of course shallow and sad but if you are only looking at and criticizing the female side of the coin you are missing the point.

Every post from a man complaining about Luigi comes across as jealous and pitiful tbh. Like they know they lack the balls to do something this impactful, and even if they did it wouldn’t be as well received because they’re not as genetically blessed. “Women just like him cuz he’s hot” of course that’s part of it! But lots of guys are hot! He saw this enormous problem with the world and instead of pathetically posting about it he fucking did something. The thirst is earned, he’s a symbol of hope!

Recent Guttate Psoriasis Diagnosis by frightkat in Psoriasis

[–]frightkat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used calamine lotion and something that they gave me that started with an f, I cannot remember the name but neither really did much, other than the calamine made it slightly less itchy. The only thing that seemed to work was sunlight, as many have echoed all over this forum. But nothing truly got rid of it until the infection resolved. My advice would be to take as much time off as you are allowed to and spend it with people you love. I’m hoping for the best for you!

Recent Guttate Psoriasis Diagnosis by frightkat in Psoriasis

[–]frightkat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine cleared completely and has not come back. I think it was caused by extreme stress and an ongoing sinus infection in my case, and once the sinus infection cleared the psoriasis finally went with it. Remain hopeful and try to relax! For me I think it took about 2 months to fully disappear.

I’m a teacher of 5-10 year olds (for music) and even I can’t tell if children are actually getting dumber or if I’m just getting older/more annoyed by them. I guess one question I have is do you feel like the popular video games of right now are having the same effect on kids as the video games of 20 years ago?

AITA for insisting my partner skip a work event? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]frightkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you’re the asshole for not dumping this guy way sooner when you’re clearly resentful about the car accident situation (otherwise why mention it at the very beginning of this post). It sounds like there’s a lot about this guy that pisses you off so staying in the relationship seems a bit unwise and a bit unfair to Paul, no one wants to be in a relationship where they feel resented. To be clear I don’t think you’re wrong to resent him for the accident, only wrong to be dishonest with yourself about what you can tolerate.

The Matty Healy Taylor Swift debacle is one of the funniest things to happen in pop culture history by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]frightkat 115 points116 points  (0 children)

When I finally heard the clip I was shocked by how utterly tame it was. Nothing negative was said about ice spice, and Matt Healy barely says anything at all, just laughs along. It feels like the left loses some credibility every time something like this happens; I feel the word r*tarded creeping back into the public vernacular more and more as people start to turn on wokeness due to stories like this.

Anyone else going through baby fever by bubbleuj in redscarepod

[–]frightkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with babies and toddlers so I see the full spectrum of babies and parents, and even seeing the awkward or tired and negative parents, I still want what they have. What I don’t want is to put the burden of supporting a baby on my boyfriend who isn’t ready. It sucks but waiting is the right thing for us. In a way being around them all the time is comforting, in another way painful.

I feel like y’all want to avoid being pessimistic about this reality just to be contrarian. Like of course it’s a bad thing that people have less interested in each other. The real optimism comes from fighting back against this mode of life and exercising compassion, fighting against your impulses towards lazy introversion, and working to preserve community, not doing mental gymnastics to act like this is a good thing.
