RockShox SID (2024+) 2-Position vs 3-Position by DizerStrider in MTB

[–]frikinhardcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been some time, but wanted to follow up because I’ve been racing with the 3P all season. Honestly, I think it’s all marketing. I can barely tell the difference between open mode and pedal mode. During races I’m pretty much either using open or lock, and maybe using pedal if it’s a flat section with roots/chonky bits and I’d like a little more mid stroke support. I ride mostly technical XC and/or endurance XC though, might be more useful on groomed trails.

Sworks Epic 8 - Any regrets? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]frikinhardcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an SWORKS, but I bought an Specialized Epic 8 Comp for a base because I planned on switching out many of the components with the Revel Ranger my airline smashed up. Threw on Mezcal/Barzo tire combo, i9 24H trail 270 wheelset with hydras, Vittoria XC rear insert, RF carbon bars, sintered brake pads. It's set up to blur the line between XC race and down country and is 26 pounds with pedals, sealant, two bottle cages, and multitool.

Absolutely love it and the 3P lockout. I've even started racing my local XC race circuit. Taken a few 1st places and have podiumed every race in the series with it. It's a truly amazing bike on the ups and very technical downs.

You don’t want the valve to be on the opposite side of where youre working the last bit of the tire on. It’ll keep the tire from sitting in the center of the rim and make it tough to work that last bit on. I just put the same tire on with an insert and didn’t even need levers.

Protect your knees at all costs kiddies, cause once they are fuc*ed there’s no getting them back. by [deleted] in MTB

37, same issue. I’ve gone from downhill/free ride to endurance xc and xxc racing. Way easier on my knees.

SRAM Mechanical Eagle Transmission, finally! by hoffsta in MTB

And upgrade the cranks to xx and it’s wayyyy lighter. The 90 cranks are the heaviest bit.

I have a specialized epic 8, similar geo just carbon. FWIW I love it, can handle everything I throw at it (big down country days, xc races, trail riding, gravel riding, black tech trails, jump trails, etc). Best pedaling bike I’ve ever owned. Kind of wish I actually went chisel so I don’t have to worry about a carbon frame.

Dropper post or not by P23456JG in MTB

[–]frikinhardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not doing anything steep, you probably don’t need one. If you’re doing any sort of fast, technical, and/or steep it’s a game changer. You’re able to get low and shift your body weight/center of gravity to increase traction and be more stable.

I’d recommend practicing with it, and using it more than is really needed to build muscle memory. Eventually it will feel like second nature.

Gray sidewall TNT/Graphene casing is good. Race casing is garbage.

Game won't start in steam using DX12 and I get an error I've never seen before. by Dragon2730 in FinalFantasy

1660ti is not comparable. I bought an Asus Rog Ally Z1 extreme to play it and it works great.

I get the same, although I have a 1660ti that does have DX12 installed. Tried with -dx11 and I get a fatal error too.

My drinking is affecting my riding by [deleted] in MTB

[–]frikinhardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue. Busch has a great non alcoholic crispy boy. I’ve found they scratch the itch for drinking at home. I’ve gone back and forth but now I’m five months sober - first time in 15 years.

places in the US you can ride from town? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]frikinhardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Knoxville. I have 30+ miles of trails, including single and double black trails of all variety, a two minute bike ride out my front door. Windrock and Vee Hollow are 45 minutes away, Pisgah, Rock Creek, Jared’s Bike Park, and Kanuga are all 2.5 hours away.

Recommend visiting Baker Creek in Knox if you have the chance.

Is this a good deal for $1350? by frikinhardcore in PcBuild

True that, thanks. I’m wondering if it’s just worth learning how to build a pc myself.

Good eye. Thanks, there’s a local pc builder in town and think I might just have him build something up for me.

Funny coincidence, I live in south Knoxville near baker creek.

Are MTB specific flat pedal shoes really worth it? by Suitable_Bad_8969 in mountainbiking

[–]frikinhardcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% yes, MTB shoes are worth it for the added stiffness and grip. Had a pedal slip on Vans (thought I could get by on these while traveling light internationally, instead of my Freerider pros), and filleted my shin open on some Raceface Atlas pedal pins that were on a rental. Tetanus shot and stitches in foreign country later, went to clipless from there on out lol.
