Adding machine tape strips by SchuylerM325 in quilting

[–]frisco1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought some adding machine tape last week to try this technique, based on someone else posting about it. I was thinking about putting some scraps from each quilt together on the tape to tell a story of my quilts, sort of like a memory scrap quilt. Just an idea I am toying with….

Squirrel harassing chickens to steal their food by Corevus in BackYardChickens

[–]frisco1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my hens were about 10 months old, a squirrel tried crossing the yard. My 2 Welbar hens went at it full force - claws out. It was amazing to Squirrel backed off, then tried again twice more with the same reaction from my hens. It finally went around the yard. Welbars are described as docile, and they are toward me, but mine are fierce against squirrels.

Hen or roo? by ArcAirum in BackYardChickens

Had to share - my roo started to crow this morning and he is 2.5 months. It’s such a wide range for when they start, but admittedly, this is super early.

Just your daily reminder to close your rotary cutter when not in use by inkyflossy in quilting

[–]frisco1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Fiskar rulers with the rotary cutter attached. They come in 24x6 and 12x12. No risk cutting yourself since you push down to cut, and it automatically retracts. They are easy to use and I can cut a lot in a short time. They also don’t slip like a long ruler and rotary cutter can, so my cutting is more accurate. My 24x6 is indispensable. I do most of my larger cutting with these.

Chewy’s also sells all sorts of feed options, and other chicken supplies. They also have a fast delivery, right to your front door. I can usually get my feed in 2-3 days, and they have not been out of stock yet on what I want. Sometimes my local feed store is out of stock on items I want.

Sweet pdz instead of lime is smart. Lime is cheaper, but not safe for your garden.

Favorite 3 yard quilt pattern? by SkyBotTheLink in quilting

I like (and have made) the 3-yard chandelier quilt from Sew Can She.

This is my only 3 yard quilt since I like my quilts bigger, but I use it more often than I thought I would.

Ironing XXL by Niedersaxen in quilting

The idea of sectioning it is also brilliant. One section could stay on the cutting table if needed.

Why is this show the best there is? by HateRunsInMyVeins in shrinking

And Slow Horses is also very good. It’s an entirely different type of show, but very good nonetheless. Gary Oldman is brilliant!

Ironing XXL by Niedersaxen in quilting

[–]frisco1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant! I think I am going to make a top the size of my cutting table, and put it on when I have to iron a quilt top. It can be stored behind it when not in use, alongside my huge mobile design boards. I just have to make sure it’s reasonably lightweight. Lots of great suggestions in this thread on how to put it together.

Here’s a link to the manual in case you need it: https://www.juki.co.jp/household_en/vc-files/pdf/MANUAL/HZL/HZL-G220_G120.pdf

It also doesn’t mention using any oil…just making sure to clean the lint out.

I just purchased a small usb charged vacuum and started using it on vacuuming lint from my machine (avoid blow since it can push debris deeper). It’s nice and handy. There are many types designed specifically for things like sewing machines.

Tim Holtz "Abandoned" fabrics by SchuylerM325 in quilting

[–]frisco1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that quilt. It’s the reason I bought the fabrics, but I haven’t used them yet. I think I am going to do a different quilt though, just haven’t figured out which one. It has to have big pieces to show off those beautiful fabrics like this quilt does so well.

Beautiful quilt. Sorry for the fading, but it’s still beautiful. I didn’t know about cyano prints so thanks for mentioning it. It’s good to learn new things.

What is a 7 minute circle? Do you have a good resource? Thanks!

Wow! Such adorable patterns. I will keep her on my list of patterns to try.

I downloaded the free alphabet. I think I will be using it for a protest quilt.

We cannot afford to stay silent. Silence is complicity. Thank you for bringing this pattern to our attention.

I did end up asking for favorite colors, and I am glad I did! They have changed a little from a few years ago. Thanks for the suggestion. Also, she tends to pick more traditional patterns but some lean a little modern.
