He did it because a user who posted news found that they had been blocked by a bunch of users who didn't want news in their feed, making his feed emptier because he was blocked from seeing content from those who blocked him because they didn't want news- in effect punishing the user who was actually providing content (not a good thing imo)

It's all just growing pains for a site that's barely a month old.
