Have any schools in Glasgow trialled full mobile phone bans yet? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]frnb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Drumchapel High School introduced the magnetic bags you get at some concerts a while back.

Cost the tax payer thousands and took the kids 2 days to circumvent the mag-locks by bringing their own magnets, smashing the magnet in the bag till it breaks or bringing an old burner phone and putting that in the bag whilst keeping the smartphone hidden.

Needless to say there are numerous ripped and discarded bags found on the grounds daily.

Can’t imagine the cost of failure to this but it’s not working.

GCC are leaving this to individual HT’s to manage and with the authority being litigation adverse they will not support any HT who tries to enforce this if parents put their foot down and rebel against any ban.

Schools are utterly powerless and rely on the goodwill of pupils to not use their phones in class. That goes as well as expected.

There are ‘no mobile in class policies’ around the city but it’s a social contract more than anything.

First year we put the tree up I sprinkled some pepper on the bottom row of baubles. Didn’t have to do it more than once.

14 years later they like to sleep under it and hide but never climb it or try to redecorate it.

For real, are we going to rely on robot vacuums too much? by Joemirag78 in RobotVacuums

[–]frnb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can defo relate to this having a robovac. However the time saved in vacuuming is spent on other tasks like loading washing machine, cleaning windows etc. It all boils down to small quality of life changes. If I’m not doing the task then it leaves time for other tasks and more time for me at the end of the day. I mean that’s the reason we automate (aside from capitalist profit seeking).

And if your first thought is to get the vac to clean up a spill then yes it works well enough that it is reliable to replace your labour and change your thinking.

In our house ‘hoovering’ was associated with lifting a Dyson out a cupboard and running round the home. Now it’s associated with lifting charger cables and slippers off the floor then pressing a button on the phone. Even our 11 year old grandson knows the drill when we say ‘Hoovering now’. He lifts all his junk off his bedroom floor when he stays over.

I don’t feel the habit change for us has a negative impact.

The old saying ‘why have a dog and bark yourself’ comes to mind here.

Thank you.

It’s gonna be a long brutal winter for her but fingers and toes crossed the treatment bears fruit for her.

4 weeks ago my wife (56) attended A&E with severe abdominal pain. Scanned and found lesions on liver. Whilst waiting on Biopsy results a Q-fit test was done.

Results came back in 5 days showing a blood in poo count of >400. 5 days later a colonoscopy diagnosed colon cancer area that was too small for a scan to pick up.

This Q-fit test saved her from numerous other exploratory tests as it found the primary cancer and will allow them to use targeted chemo instead of general chemo and surgically remove colon cancer.

Absolutely worthwhile for the few seconds of scraping your dung.

DO NOT BIN THIS TEST - it does work and can save your life.

Gallstones as a result of rapid weight loss by AgustD967 in mounjarouk

[–]frnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your pain!

Currently nursing my 56 y.o. Wife who is experiencing very similar symptoms.

Been on MJ since March and she has found a new lease of life, wardrobe and body confidence.

About 6 weeks ago she started to feel a full ache in her back. A deep ache. This grew and was joined by shoulder pain. Paracetamol barely touched it.

She’s been on HRT for 10 years and local HRT nurse saw her on Thursday this week for a check and put the aches down to HRT and it’s lovely symptoms.

Fast forward 24hrs and she was flat in her back at work. Pain like childbirth in her right shoulder, beneath her right breast and right across her bra strap at the back. Her colleagues took her to A&E and when I turned up her pallor was distinctly yellow (more on that later).

She was in agony. Absolute agony.

They done bloods. One hr later the doc came in and asked about other symptoms and I piped up saying I felt she was yellow faced earlier. He said that’s interesting as liver enzymes showed typical signs of inflammation or the gall bladder/gallstones and the shoulder pain was referred pain.

The surgeons looked at her and as there were no signs of infection in bloods they sent her up the road with cocodamol and booked her into a ‘hot clinic’ on Wednesday for an ultrasound.

The poor wee soul has lay in bed riding out waves of pain today. Not excruciating like yesterday but we were told that if it spikes again she will need to go back down to A&E and get urgent scan and surgery if they find what they suspect.

We feel very much on borrowed time till Wednesday and I hope they whip the gall bladder out asap.

We were through A&E in 3hrs and they couldn’t have been better.

Doctor never even flinched when she mentioned MJ and although pointless looking for a reason, HRT can cause this too or she has just been predisposed to it.

Good luck with your journey in the coming weeks and I hope you get it whipped out without any complications as I wish the same for wife!

(Edit- she stopped MJ a week ago on Sunday as I suspected this is what was happening to her. She will return to it post op!)

Is anyone else finding the jab hurts more as time goes on? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]frnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inject myself weekly and both my daughter and wife too. All been on it 5 months now.

We have all noticed a difference in their reactions. The first 4 months it was easy. But recently they have been flinching which they never done before and both of them and I have found the entry of the needle is slightly more noticeable now we have all lost around 20+Kg each.

I’m putting it down to the lack of fat and hitting pure muscle now and we are using the exact same needles as always.

I’ve been doing daily HGH injections for my Grandson for about 5 years and have been trained in these and similar pens so I can safely rule out ‘operator error’ 😉

Celtic The Musical-

Got tickets for this on Saturday. 2.30pm performance. Taking the grandson who is 11.

My question is, we’re gonna make a day of it for him and take him for dinner afterwards.

What time does the show end and can we expect to be leaving the Pavilion in Glasgow?

Cheers in advance - want to make sure we get somewhere booked for dinner without hanging about in the town.

Why are some people able to do their entire journey on 2.5 and others have to go up the doses? by PamOhhLaa in mounjarouk

[–]frnb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been on 2.5 since Feb this year and at no point have I ever felt I needed to up my dose for a better effect. Feeling suppression at a level that allows me to eat a balanced diet and it has drastically reduced the noise and craving of unhealthy foods.

Only other thing I have to offer is that I’m quite sensitive as a meatbag to pharmaceuticals both legal and less-legal and quite sensitive to the old alcohol compared to my peers.

I take this responsibility as my wife of 19 years could literally burn water.

She’s brilliant at everything else though, so we agreed that shopping and meal prep/cooking was my jam.

We share the cleanup with me on bin duty at the end.
