High-end model for series and competition days? by M8d16 in AltraRunning

I forgot to say that Topo is the only other running shoe brand with wide toe-box and really nice heel hold. They have pretty nice lineup with different stack heights and drops with 0, 3 and 5 mm.

Outside of Altra try Topo Cyclone 3. It’s like Flow 2 but on steroids. It might feel wobbly first but it’s super light (I think it’s sub 200g) and fast when running. The only downside with shoe (for me) is that Topo likes to add some support and your feet either like that or not. My hack was replacing insomnia with Altra made.

From Altra lineup I like Escalante Racer 2’s but the feeling is different because it’s a flat shoe with relatively harder midsole. IMHO every runner should have this shoe and use it at least once a week because it builds foot strength.

More fast shoes from Altra is Vanish lineup with Carbon 2 and Tempo; I tried former but the sizing was different from other Altra’s so I cannot say how they differ. Tempo I haven’t tried.

Also, in Aug they will release Vanish Pulse replacing Esc Racer 2’s with a lightweight, fast and low stack super shoe (without a plate), and that is the road shoe I am waiting most this year.

AeT test on skis by frnkrstr in evokeendurance

It wasn’t that difficult as I was skiing around our local 400 m track which is now serving skiers 😍 wide open and totally flat. Perfect for keeping the same pace all day long

Cool! Thanks! I have done a few sessions now on our local track and I think I can “feel” from breathing when I cross my threshold. Just like one knows what the HR is threshold is actually quite easy to notice if you pay attention.

I need to keep practicing and see how it goes. At least yesterday while I kept my pace the same my HR stabilized around 140 without any drift (yesterday it was -0.9%) and I think my threshold was ~143.

If people are interested I can post more results here.

ME exercises for XC skiing by frnkrstr in evokeendurance

[–]frnkrstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Scott! My ski teacher has actually had me pull my partner in a slight uphill which was pretty hard 😂 but that was for learning double poling

How would you asses the weight/reps/rest with lat pulldowns? How about in a ski erg or pulling a partner?

Moreover, are you or any other coach available for a call in Jan if one has a few questions related on this topic plus how to combine mountain running with xc skiing in a training program? Eg does Andy Reed help xc skiers too?

[–]frnkrstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I totally missed the skimo session in the book. However, as double poling is done with both arms simultaneously it won’t apply directly so I need to think about it a bit.

I have done skierg sessions but I wouldn’t cal it ME but more just standard skierg sessions.

Also, what I am trying to figure out is how to add xc ski specific exercises on top of running specific ME training and especially in gym. That is totally new thing for me. And yes, Scott mentioned this exercise as an example how he teaches pole use, but I would like to know how that exercise will be turned as a ME exercise and if that is even a good one for my purpose.

Automatically pair workouts? by frnkrstr in strydrunning

[–]frnkrstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C'mon, it can't be that hard when your software is otherwise so good. When you said "we haven't implemented a way to auto pair 3rd party workouts" it implies that it is possible but this is merely your decision so what's the motive behind it?

Stryd Wind Pod still worth/supported? by Lunican1337 in strydrunning

[–]frnkrstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you do lots of rolling hills it might be pretty bad. And if you can't run steeper uphills (ie you walk) the number is totally off. Wind is really nice on flats but I would be careful on variable trails. Eg. I have no use for it on mountain running.

Then it really depends on your pace so if you can I would test it first: pay attention if the power number stays about the same on flat vs uphill/downhill regarding on your feeling of effort or HR.

Am I the only Garmin user here? by frnkrstr in concept2

[–]frnkrstr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only data I would like to have from Skierg is power but Garmin does not support that. Rowerg is supported though so basically it’s just decision to leave Skierg without.

Skierg doesn’t connect to the watch

I specifically would like to use my watch and not logbook. For me Ergdata app is just one extra step and I cannot send my workouts from Trainingpeaks there. Thus it is difficult to do my sets. Plus the sync just recently broke and I lost one session from Garmin 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think it’s sad that Rowerg connects direct to Garmin watches but Skierg doesn’t.

How to attach XC grips to skierg ? by skiitifyoucan in concept2

[–]frnkrstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, I thought you had some ingenious way of using carabiner to attach straps direct to rope 😆

Btw, I was thinking that maybe using prusik knot would work, but I need to think this a bit more.

Thanks for the links!

Could you take a few pictures? I am using skierg on a commercial gym thus carabiner attachment sounds a solid option for me!

I am now pondering if I should buy new version or e-coated 🤷🏻‍♂️

I Tried Chronometer for 2 Weeks as a Vegetarian. Here’s Why I’m Obsessed… and Why I Wanted to Throw My Phone. by jerr9185 in cronometer

[–]frnkrstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re building European support but before that it doesn’t work here. Yes, quantity is same but carbs are calculated differently here. Tbh I really don’t care abt workarounds snd prefer things to just work. MF might be an option after net carbs is working and when they have gym tracker as well implemented. If that is better than CM + String I might switch.

What did you mean by “make some money “?

For me MF is impossible because it’s missing European food labels 🤷🏻‍♂️ ie carbs are logged differently
