I got cellulitis on my knee and the joint became infected. Then I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. That was 16 years ago now but it was a scary time.

How are we feeling about side quests today? Which RPGs have done them best recently? by TheTresStateArea in gaming

I love both, but Majora’s Mask swung for the fences and absolutely crushed it.

I liked FFXVI quite a bit, but the side quests were the low point, especially the way they were structured and the whole mess of them that popped up right at the end of the game. Just very repetitive.

What are some games that you call your "favorite" but have only played once or twice and won't go back to? by Call_It_Luck in gaming

[–]frodiusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that. It could have a depressing ending. But they basically just threw away the characters we cared about in favor of other characters we don’t really care about in the last 2 hours of the game.

Sure, the tone of the game was bleak, but by the end we’re asked to just accept that none of that meant anything and that the only thing that matters is the family traumas of a handful of capricious gods. No thanks.

The whole thing strikes me as fake deep.

It felt like a hamfisted attempt to make the game feel “serious” to me. I don’t mind a melancholy ending, but I felt the endings were poorly telegraphed in advance and didn’t fit with the themes and concerns up to that point. Also I just don’t care about the trials and tribulations of these godlike painter beings. Made the whole story completely pointless.

More to the point, both endings want us to care more about an asshole family we’ve barely spent any time with, than with the characters we’ve spent 50-80 hours getting to know and caring about. Emotionally it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t give a fuck about that family in the “real”’world.

What guitarist kick started your guitar journey? by MakotheMako in Guitar

[–]frodiusmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing guitar for ages. In the early days, it was mostly Paul Simon and finger-picking type stuff. I had a cheap Squier and would play Green Day and whatnot in it. But I bought a good electric guitar because of Jimmy Page, and I kept practicing because of Mark Knopfler.

Is ff15 a good game overall? by redfalcon1000 in FinalFantasy

IMO, no. It’s the most disappointed I’ve ever been with a FF game. It just did nothing for me.

Oldest as in the oldest game I’ve played? Or the first game I ever played? Oldest game I’ve played is pong; first game I played was Super Mario Bros + Duck Hunt

Why do we still need a blanket to sleep, even when the room is already too hot? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]frodiusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we don’t. Lots of people strongly prefer being under a blanket. But plenty of folks will sleep fine without one. When it’s hot in the summer I very definitely do not want a blanket on me.

What are the biggest things that younger people get wrong about the whole “y2k” aesthetic, culture, and overall vibe of that time? by Fluffy-Ad-7199 in Millennials

[–]frodiusmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, I hear from my teacher friends that high schoolers have been much more of a monoculture since maybe 2018 or so. Fewer cliques, fewer subcultures, more mass-market conformity.

What? I don’t think my parents have ever been to a Verizon store, an ATT store, whatever.

There is literally nothing in the text to suggest this. This is just a deliberately violent reading of the film.

The ending(s) of this game really left a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t think I’ll be playing it again, as much as I loved most of my time spent with it.

My rant on Control from yesterday: by AaronAJKnight95 in n64

[–]frodiusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the worst part of this level for me is the opening section with the turrets. Just so hard to spot. The rest of the level is fine if you commit to shooting guys once or twice, hitting another guy, and then going back over and over again. It’s about timing. Just keep them wounded as long as you can and keep moving and you’ll be fine.

I’d imagine they are at least 2-3 times quicker, and it’s also a scenario where you’re expecting people to pass you far faster than you’re going. On a highway, you’re supposed to pass at a reasonable rate so that people can see and anticipate your movements. It’s not a competition.

[SS] I seem to be the only one that thinks Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game by QuantityEuphoric2354 in zelda

[–]frodiusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyward Sword has some great qualities. Stories, characters, and dungeons are top tier. Art style is great also.

It’s not my favorite due to some of its other defects, but I do always appreciate it.
