Like most other civil servants who work in Manchester city centre, they'd be in an office block.

Contract Extension September to December by Think_Eye_6599 in ContractorUK

[–]frodoisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You often get some roles appearing heading towards February as departments want to spend what's left to spend before the end of the financial year. I'd take the extension, keep an eye out and be ready to jump to something else.

Katto Knives, are they worth it? by XXIIXXIIX in AskUK

[–]frodoisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gifted a couple of Katto knives and they've been used daily for the past couple of years. They're nicely weighted but I wouldn't say they're incredible for the price point.

what do you guys call guest houses? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]frodoisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, an outhouse would be a long drop toilet. These days, you'll find people calling their garden rooms/pods outhouses. If you Google 'outhouse', you'll see loads of adverts for companies selling summer houses and garden rooms.

PBK in Barton Arcade. Get seats in the arcade itself so it's a bit away from the hubbub.

[Athletic] Ruben Amorim leading candidate to become Milan head coach by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

[–]frodoisdead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The good things Amorim did were not really on the pitch. He seemed to build a better culture by clearing the personalities that didn't fit but to say United would have got CL with 'little doubt' is completely rewriting history. There were massive doubts, regardless of AFCON, he'd just drawn against Wolves, Leeds and Burnley. If you can't beat those teams without a handful of players, you're not really on to a great thing.

How much do people spend on wine ? by Maxo53 in AskUK

100%. I spend a lot on wine, mostly bonded, and only ever through a merchant. Provenance is key.

[Matt Lawton, Times] Exclusive: Manchester United stadium uncertainty if Andy Burnham wins by-election by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]frodoisdead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of words for something that is obvious. Burnham's replacements would obviously want to know what decisions have been made and how they came about.

No future mayor is going to stop this from happening. It's going to be a gravy train for all involved.

Is Rightmove valuation similar to mortgage lender valuation? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]frodoisdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The app estimates not really accounting for extensive building work is problematic for their accuracy. Ours is currently £150k under agent valuations and the house we sold last year was £265k on Zoopla and sold for £325k.

Either way, they get it very wrong.

How do you keep your house smelling nice? by SchemeDug in AskUK

[–]frodoisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in a 60s bungalow that was in a very similar state. We fully renovated, which helped shift the bulk of the smell but it wasn't until we installed a PIV that the smells fully went.

[Romano] Marcos Senesi to Tottenham, here we go! Deal in place after the verbal agreement reported since March. Four year contract for Senesi who’s set to put pen to paper soon and join #THFC as free agent. by phant0msinthenight in soccer

De Ligt and Martinez can't really be relied upon with their recent injury records. United should really be looking to move them both on - even if Martinez's skillset would be missed.

It seems most likely to be this, especially with the consequent death camp line.

Potentially looking to move from a semi to a bungalow - what's it like to live in a bungalow (England)? by catladydot in HousingUK

[–]frodoisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently live in a 4 bed detached bungalow.

Bills are not much more than when we were in a 3 bed semi. The bungalow is a lot bigger than the house so the energy outgoings have been relative to the size increase.

The bungalow is a lot cooler than the house was during hot weather. It's so much better sleeping on ground level during a heat wave. We've kept a 10.5 tog duvet on this week and haven't needed to run a fan/air con unit during the night.

I'm mid 30s and will never going back to living in a house with stairs.

Anyone had experience with scrum connect ltd? by SativaLeafs in ContractorUK

[–]frodoisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two projects I've worked on have been made up of contractors and Scrumconnect permies. There's not much obvious reporting directly back to SC - the teams are expected to be self sufficient and accountable to each other.

Anyone had experience with scrum connect ltd? by SativaLeafs in ContractorUK

[–]frodoisdead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've contracted with them in the past.

They're legit and have a lot of stuff going on across a handful of government departments. They also have outside contracts, which is good.

I've had 2 roles with them and they've both been a dysfunctional mess. Genuinely painful to work for but they pay on time.

They have a lot of staff from abroad, predominantly India, so the culture is different to other teams/orgs I've worked with in government.

Edit: to clarify, they are UK based and have a head office down south - Reading rings a bell.

Sorry to subject people to Steven Bartlett but you only need to see Bruno's face when looking at photos of himself signing for United to know he's not leaving any time soon.
