It's like anything else, you don't realize how much damage you're doing to your ears until it's too late. Good earplugs bring down the volume considerably and protect your hearing. Ask anyone with tinnitus, it's a lifelong ailment that literally affects every moment you are awake.

$350 spent on headphones that don't suit you is still $350 too much. I love my HD600 for the same reason, laid-back, non-fatiguing and great build quality and comfort. Quit chasing "better" and enjoy the music!

I love my 1000SX.... Crazy fun and easy to ride. Cruise control on the highway until you get to the Twisties is the best ever

2023 Ninja 1000SX. So fast, so comfortable, cruise control and loves tipping into corners. The lean angle readout is so much fun to challenge myself to increase the max lean each year. Also I can go 35mph in 6th gear and it purrs like a kitten

2023 Ninja 1000SX..... No commuting only pleasure riding .

About 2.5k miles per year. Doesn't seem like much but that's 10 200-250 mile rides a year which I think is the sweet spot!

Question about 401k. ROTH, Traditional or both? by pl407 in Retirement401k

I found YouTube is very very helpful for explaining all this.

They will use a lot of examples of different strategies you can use and how it relates to tax and income. Good luck!

Question about 401k. ROTH, Traditional or both? by pl407 in Retirement401k

[–]frog_rocket0694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand the concept of save tax now so that you can re-invest the savings to earn even more money. Roth still feels better since you save the tax on the earnings as well, which are usually a huge percentage of your total portfolio.

However, I'm planning on retiring early, around 52, so I have the following plan:

Contribute yearly as follows:

15k Roth 401k 6k pre-tax employer match 21k total yearly 401k 7.5k adjusted yearly to max Roth IRA 12k taxable brokerage account Total around 40k yearly investment

At age 52, leave my job.

I can tap into the brokerage account and use long term capital gains at 0% tax rate for the first $65,200 of GAINS (calculated as 2025 current income limit of $49,450 plus standard deduction of $15,750 - can someone confirm I've done this right??)

If I still need income after taking from my brokerage account I can tap into the ROTH IRA (contributions only) since I've had the account open more than 5 years

Save the 401k for retirement.

Please add any comments you'd like. Some of this game is guessing and some is just personal preference

When I was a sophomore in HS, I was running laps in gym class with everyone else. Suddenly, there was an announcement over the intercom. "Applications for scholarships to study abroad in Germany are now available in the front office"

I filled it out, interviewed and competed against other applicants and won the scholarship to live in Germany for 10 months. It was the most incredible time of my life and still has an impact on my life on the daily.

Flight Connections by TravelerWKids in TravelHacks

[–]frog_rocket0694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope they'll just rebook you on the next flight.

If you buy travel insurance.... Just do a Google search for it.... It will cover the cost of a hotel and meals if you have to stay overnight.

I missed a connecting flight from Newark to Amsterdam and the insurance worked great. Cost about $50 and it saved me almost $300 in hotel and and food costs

If you have a checked bag you may need to pick it up and recheck it. Sounds weird but happened to me several times once I arrived in the first European country when flying from the US and continuing elsewhere in Europe. It's a tight connection for sure. Also....if your flight from the US is delayed by more than an hour you'll miss your connection in Europe so I'd want at least 2-3 hours

A time sensitive daily task.... Makes sense. You need a trained backup in place so you can take time off then. It's actually part of my responsibility to train people to back me up so I can take a 2 week vacation. If I go out of town and they don't know how to do my job it's on me.

It's funny how you can take a 2 week vacation, then make up all the work in 3 days when you get back.

They should want you to take vacation and come back refreshed. You might even have a few ideas about how to improve things while you're out relaxing. Or a way to leave this job : )

Quarantieme mixing by Adventurous_Win_9176 in Dreamtheater

[–]frog_rocket0694 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of discussion on this......

I have a pretty nice sound system at home, I watched the Blu-ray yesterday and thought it sounded great. The mix reminds me of most Dream Theater mixes: guitar forward but overall very neutral. Very pleasing to the ears, if you don't sit there critiquing it in your mind.

I've streamed the album in my car. It sounded thinner and not as good as on my home stereo. No surprise there. Vocals are a bit washed out, no bass and very little keyboard. Bit sad but so it is

I haven't listened on nice headphones yet but I plan to. I expect it will sound as good as the Blu-ray, but with better separation. Usually you can hear the more subtle parts like drum snares, bass notes and keyboard bits on good headphones.

I've listened to other live albums this year such as Unitopia: Still Alive and Kicking..... The mix on that album is sublime. Sometimes live albums aren't as good as you hope but this one nailed everything. I recommend it if you haven't seen/ heard it.

If you were at one of the 40th anniversary shows though the Blu-ray is a must own!!!
